What're you up to today?Today I am working from home, primarily on my new web show entitled The Jeff Leeson Show, with our newest episode coming out tomorrow (Wednesday Feb 25th) I am in the editing room putting finishing touches on the show with my producer.

What makes you laugh?

Alot makes me laugh, I have a wide variety of things that I genuinely find funny, primarily sarcasm, I love dry British humour and anything involving kids, especially when they have a large vocabulary and speak like adults.

How do people react when you tell them you're a comic?Generally people react positively, you get the occasional tell me a joke where they want you to prove you are funny. I have gotten alot of oh you're a comic you don;t seem that funny, a common misconception with comedians I find is that we are always "on" so i think when people find out after having a serious conversation or after just being normal and chill they tend to be a bit shocked by it. In most cases though finding out I am a comic leads to a ton of other questions about the business, touring and how I got into that field.

If you weren’t doing comedy, what path would you be pursuing?I would most likely be a teacher or work with kids in some fashion. I love to motivate and love working with kids to help them pursue their dreams and find their passion in life as I was allowed to at a young age. I would also attempt to be a talent manager mentoring and growing young artists. I have always had an entrepreneurial mind set so something involving my own business and not having a boss would fit well with my personality and life style.

What's the best and worst celebrity encounter you've had?I haven't had very many celebrity encounters at all, the worst one was spilling a beer on myself at The Comedy Store in LA while Bobby Lee from Mad TV was on stage.

What's next for you?I am continuing to tour with stand up comedy, heading out west to Alberta this spring for a 3 week tour but my biggest project on the go right now is The Jeff Leeson Show, a weekly comedy web series I have begun working on and thus far has been getting a great response from people. New episodes are released every Wednesday on Facebook at 3pm.

  What have you been up to lately?

I have been up to making my second album. I’ve been talking to some musicians on Twitter to collaborate. All the music is turning out great.

'Tonight We're Golden', what inspired this song?

‘Tonight We’re Golden’ is the Lead (1st single) off of my second album. I’ve uploaded the cover art and a 40-second snippet on my website. I first started making the song from a tune I had a random night and couldn’t get it off of my head. I had to record it in the middle of the night or else I'd forget it. I kept working on it the summer of 2013, and up to today I’m still working on it. I faster realized the song should be called ‘Golden’, but later changed it to ‘Tonight We’re Golden’ to give it a more artistic side and to connect it to the album name coming out soon. What inspired it was the name, and my collaboration with Blake Denney. The synths and chorus always makes me think of an elegant visual.

What's the process of writing a song?

The process of writing a song and producing it can vary from different strategies. For most of my songs record an addicting tune or fun drop when I randomly get the idea. Sometimes, another producer sends me something and I go off of that. Sometimes, I even start writing notes and playing around with Massive to see what I can come up with. That’s how the majority of my first album ‘Red Beat’ came to life.

What art aside from music inspires you?

I like unusual. Actually, I adore it so much I think about it multiple times a day. I love the idea of a tall throne in the middle of the woods or a beautiful woman covered in gold posing somehow unusual. What I love is simple ideas and not to complicated images, but making it unique, making it something you’ve never seen before. I’ve been into a lot of abstract work and clean artwork covers like covers from Kanye West or Clean Bandit, so I want to create my own for my second album and singles. For example, I always knew ‘Tonight We’re Golden’ had to incorporate elegance, beauty, and gold. That’s how I made the artwork cover for it, and that’s how I’m focusing on doing my music video for it. I believe art can be anything you want it to be as long as it means something to you.

What's the most inspiration fan comments you receive?

The most inspirational fan comment I've received is ‘I hate his music. Hopefully he makes something more professional next time’. Believe it or not, I love criticism. But don’t confuse criticism with ‘hate’, ‘jealousy’ or ‘envy’; they are not the same. I like comments where I know they are true and they might not be nice. Because thanks to that comment, I got inspired to make better music, better music videos and better artwork covers. Aside from respectful criticism, the nicest one I’ve got is ‘Remember me when you get disgustingly famous’. I love this because they know my new material is good enough for me to reach big things.

Any new elements you adding or experimenting with in your music?

I’ve experimented too much for my second album. I have a very special song I collaborated with Robert Mitchell that has a flute on it. A legit flute that goes hard on the drop. It’s such a simple 128-bpm track that I can listen to everyday!

Who gives you the best feedback?

My best friend Sally Pope. She knows I’ll become someone important in the music industry someday, so she is not afraid to tell me what’s awesome or what’s stupid. Sometimes I get carried away with an Idea that I maybe have done before, but I love it so much that I want to do it again because I think ‘not so many people have seen it’. She helps me come up with more unique and professional ideas, from cover arts to songs. For example, I had a photoshoot for my senior photo. I knew I wanted to stand out, like I always want to. So I got my mother’s chair/sofa and dragged it to the middle of the mountain. We had the photoshoot there and I loved it. Like I mentioned before, I loved the idea of something so unusual that I believed no one has ever thought of before. Then, I wanted to do something similar for my artwork for ‘Tonight We’re Golden’. She told me I couldn’t, so I didn’t, and therefore I made an incredible cover for my single,

What can we expect in the near future?

What inspires you and motivates you?

What inspires and motivates me is passion and purpose. I have always believed it is important to go for what you feel you are called to do no matter how hard it gets and when you start to see the results it is having on the people around you as well it inspires you to give your all a little bit more.

What's the best part about what you do?

The best part about doing what I do is the people and being able to do what I naturally love to do. I LOVE being able to make people smile through doing something I love. As well as the growth it allows me to have. Music is a very simple yet complex thing. It has the power to drive or resonate with people in ways other things cant. It is a very important job for it can influence many in a matter of minutes.

What new projects are you working on?

I am working on some new singles as well as doing some social media tours/events around America and Canada. I am featured on a song called Anti-Gravity by MC Mario which has hit radio all over Canada and the US. But I am just building things one step at a time and hopefully this coming year will bring some exciting new surprises!

Does a specific state of mind or mood generate your best work?

I tend to work best when I am in an emotionally unstable mood. (laughs) Its funny because half the stuff I write about I've never been through yet somehow it impacts my spirit and I start to play a character in someone else's story. I love writing about deep realistic moments that end in hopeful thinking leaving people seeing more for their life or seeing their true value.

What can we expect from you in the near future?

What inspires you and motivates you?

My biggest inspiration is God and of course the people who I come in contact with everyday of my life also influence me a lot and experiences in general... life is sweet and cruel. (laughs)

What's the best part about what you do?

I love a seeing the music I write becoming it's full potential, like after the production and people get to feel the same emotion I felt while writing and also appreciate the music as well... That's so amazing to me

What new projects are you working on?

Work on my sophomore album to be released next year 2015... A lot of styles and genres are gonna be displayed on the album as well as some collaborations ... It's gonna be amazing for real music lovers.

Does a specific state of mind or mood generate your best work?

Nah not really... My music and inspiration could come anytime, any mood. (laughs)

What can we expect from you in the near future?

What's the best part of the pro wrestling game?

The best part of pro wrestling for me is being able to play off the crowd's energy, feeling their excitement and feeling like they're there for you, cheering you on. It's an adrenaline rush like no other.

What's the worst part?

The worst part, like many other professional sports, would be the potential of serious injury. As safe as we are, the chance of injury is always possible. I have been lucky enough to not have any serious injury.

Who do you model your career after, if anyone?

I love watching videos of Rick Martel. I've always enjoyed watching Martel through all points in his career, whether he was teaming with Tito Santana or being the Model, I learn a lot when I watch him.

Are you a fan of MMA and ever consider doing it?

I don't follow MMA very closely. I think the problem is that MMA companies don't have athletes that are "larger than life". A lot of guys in baseball, football, basketball, etc, all have guys with "starpower", and I feel that that is lacking in MMA. As far as if I would ever do it, I would never say never, because you never know how things will turn out. I feel like I need to toughen up (LOL) if I was to do MMA right now.

Q - What was common theme for many of the tracks on your album Evolve?

A - Hi Jatinder, Really great to catch up with you again, most of the album was themed on my recovery from alcoholism, I was a quarter way through the album when I started my road to recovery and most of what I started writing about was focused on getting sober, it really helped me to keep sober as I was so focused on getting the album done, because it meant so much to me, so I ended up with 90 percent of the album being about soberiety.

Q - How good did it feel to reach number one on iTunes?

A - Absolutley amazing, it was a huge achievment for me and it really was the icing on the cake after completing "Evolve" because I put my all into it and it was a really nice reward to get at the end of it.

Q - Are your fans a real motivating force for you?

A - Absolutley 100 percent, it really feels good when they give me positive feedback, and support my music.

Q - What can we expect from your new album?

A - For my next album "Energy" it will mostly just be myself on the album, as I still feel I need to prove myself as an artist. I see things a lot more differently now creative wise as I am more focused and more capable of doing things I couldnt in the past, there may be one collaboration, but we will see how things turn out.

Q - Anything else you would like readers to know?

What're you up to today?

  Today, I will undoubtedly annoy my wife at least 4 or 5 times, workout and eat everything that's loaded with salt of sugar.

What's the best and worst celebrity encounter you've had?

  All the celebrity encounters are just dandy. It's a pleasure for them to interact with me. Who says that?!

  What's next for you?

  My next project, I hope to do a 45 - 1 hour show called DirtBagShit. It's going to be a collection of DirtBag stories I've accumulated in my lifetime. Gritty, raw and fun.

I'm gonna be polishing 5 new jokes to finish up a 10 minute set I've been preparing.

If you weren’t doing comedy, what path would you be pursuing?

If I wasn't doing comedy, I'd probably be rapping or being a lawyer somewhere.

What's the best and worst celebrity encounter you've had?

I've only met one celebrity in my life, and that was Jim Kelly. He was chill.

What's next for you?

I'm planning to visit more comedy clubs/open mics in the Albany area and really make a name for myself. All going well, I'm prospectively looking at going on tour in the near future

What're you up to today?

Today was a fairly normal day. I woke up around noon. I sent a bunch of e-mails and answered some e-mails. Then I smoked pot and talked to some fans on the YouNow app. Then I smoked pot and played NBA on the Playstation3. Did I mention it's raining? I also Tindered a lot.  If you weren’t doing comedy, what path would you be pursuing?

  I think about this a lot when I'm driving at 3am and a trucker almost hits me. I think I would like to be a detective. Or a long haul truck driver to be on the other side of that fearful moment. I doubt I could do anything else adequetely. I couldn't teach. Kids take forever to learn shit. What's the best and worst celebrity encounter you've had?

  The best is probably the time I met John Malkovich at a Red Sox game and complimented him on the obscure film "Ogre" and he said "Hmm, no one ever says 'Ogre'." The worst is probably the time I was drunk and talked to Justin Kirk from Weeds like he was his character on the show, I said "I can't believe she just left you out there in the desert bro" and he was like "Uhhh, yep. She's uhhhh, a busy...gal... I gotta go.". I am an ass. What's next for you?

I'll be at the Comedy Club in Jacksonville on New Year's Eve opening for Orny Adams. It should be amazing. Anything else you'd like to say?

  I have a podcast called "High Pathetically with Will Noonan" that is basically a journal of my life as an unknown road comic. It has hecklers, interviews, a lot of me rambling in the car.   I'd probably be a restaurant designer. No kidding. I come from a design background. I have 2 masters degrees. I'm the most over-educated guy ever to write dick jokes.

Today I'm taking the day off and watching top chef and eating pasta and I feel very good about that decision.

I'd like to be an assh0le. They seem to get a lot accomplished.

What's the best and worst celebrity encounter you've had?

I met Michael Richards on an airplane. He was very nice. I convinced him to do standup comedy and even told him where to go. Two months later he got in trouble on the stage I told him to go to. So I try not to talk to people anymore. Worst encounter was when I met Porky Pig. He was very racist.

What's next for you?

I just told you. Top chef and pasta. Why don't you listen?

What're you up to today? 

I'm at my regular job (by day I'm a book editor, by night I'm a standup/storyteller/author) and I'm getting fired up for tonight's show, Bitchcraft.  It's a monthly variety show that I host with Lauren Maul at The Duplex in the West Village of Manhattan.  We have standup, storytelling, singing, and snacks!

If you weren’t doing comedy, what path would you be pursuing? 

I would probably be a hairdresser/make-up artist/stylist.  I love hair and make-up and I'm really interested in how that all works as far as hair coloring, dealing with different textures and looks, make-up experimentation. 

What's the best and worst celebrity encounter you've had? 

Worst was probably at a cocktail party a few years back when I was introduced to Edward Norton and I was so stunned that he was at the party (I had seen him from across the room, but I just assumed it was a guy who looked like a pudgy Edward Norton, but I quickly found out it was the real thing and he was in between movies). We shook hands and I just fumbled my words and acted a lot like a fish flopping around on a dock somewhat (odd analogy?) until he walked away.  Best was probably the 2nd time when I met Barack Obama and he remembered meeting me before, which knocked my socks off.  There's only 2 kinds of people with memory that good: politicians and preachers. 

What's next for you? 

I'm always bouncing around NYC performing standup and storytelling.  I'm working on a few essays to shop around here and there.  After cranking out a book about 18 months ago, I'm happy to be writing shorter length pieces now.

What're you up to today?

Right now I'm on a train to my hometown to pick up a rental car to drive to my fiancées hometown in West Virginia for Thanksgiving, it's cheaper to rent outside of NYC. Glamour doesn't begin to cover my lifestyle.

If you weren’t doing comedy, what path would you be pursuing?

Maybe production or development? Something in entertainment for sure.

What's the best and worst celebrity encounter you've had?

I used to be an NBC page and I had a gig at Conan escorting all the celeb guests to their dressing rooms (that sounds suggestive but my uniform was a navy ensemble from Casual Corner so I can assure you it was all above board). My fave person I met was 50 Cent he was just being really funny, telling me stories, and my name tag said "Kara K" and he was psyched to inform me that that's a palindrome. The worst celeb experience? I don't want to get in trouble so I'll just say that the most washed up C list celebs are usually the rudest and most entitled.

What's next for you?

I'm just hustling it up, you know, doing stand up as much as I can, about to start writing a couple new projects.
