A BIT OF A BACKSTORY:

toby is the youngest of a big family and was born and raised in jacksonville, florida. iβm talking like six or seven kids and their father walked out before toby was born so his existence was not necessarily celebrated. he was constantly dragged around by his older siblings when their mom was busy ... they just kind of treated his existence like a hassle. he was close with all of his siblings, but none of them were entirely friendly with each other since yk ... who wants to bring your seven year old brother out with your friends.
toby had a good time though hanging out with people nearly a decade older than them and hanging by themself a lot, skating around town and loitering were their go to. they craved close friendship after seeing what their siblings had, but kind of stuck out at school like a sore thumb for being the youngest of the park kids. everybody knew them already and they hardly had a chance to make a name for themself. plus, when people (namely his family) made it clear to toby that they didnβt want them around, they learned to stick by themself and not branch out as a survival tactic.
but there was a glimmer of hope lmao ... when everyone got just a bit too busy in the summers, they resulted to sending toby to camp cooper creak. honestly <3 this place was everything to toby. they had attention, close friends who actually cared about him truly this dude was zooming in 2x speed. going absolutely crazy bonkers diving off the rocks and making the most of every moment. they attended for around three years before their family decided to stop sending them and in those years they missed it more than anything :/
the years after camp cooper creak were just a blur for toby, trying to find something that sparked joy like attending camp did. they wound up getting into graphic design while in high school and somehow getting a decent enough scholarship to a nearby college. like yes they totally submitted the graphic design is my passion meme for at least seven projects but toby ended up graduating through a blur of partying and dorm loneliness and simply yolo-ing everything. heβs currently going through a bout of life where he has no idea what to do - no career goals or people to follow - and believes that the place that brought his favorite childhood memories will help boost his bank account and provide him with some direction. maybe part of them is really putting off adult life too, and they just want to latch onto their childhood while they still can.
PERSONALITY:
no but fr this dude is just a little creature. kind of is just letting go of everything he previously knew and is striving to have the time of his life.
SPONTANEOUS: very impulsive and always down to have fun. really doesnβt put a single thought behind their actions. i mean i listed this as a positive trait, but sometimes this bites them in the ass because they donβt think things through. if your muse is looking for some trouble to get into ... hit toby up
PERCEPTIVE: having been a side/background character their entire life, toby is used to picking up on cues that people give off. i donβt want to call them a #empath but they are very emotionally smart and can relate to and understand other people deeply. they can make you feel like there can be a hundred people in the roomβ
SPINELESS: really just lacks discipline and more often than not, the strength to be a better person. gets a bit cowardly when it comes to owning up to their own actions so they prefer to shimmy out of it all
VOLATILE: big emotional shifts. this includes just straight chilling to dangerous action, having a good time to staring out the window of a cabin longingly ... also has some temper issues
growing up, he was always the type of kid that would do the worst to get attention (lowkey crimes ... absolute chaos and the like) and sometimes he still falls into the habit of acting out to get attention or honestly just does it for fun
for sure is the type to start drama in the group chat by photoshopping two counselors together and giving them a ship hashtag. mind you i have no photoshop skills so this is going to be extremely fun if/when this happens (if there is a ship out there that you all want this to happen with then hit me up HEWJKRHWEJ)
they are 100% the counselor that loses a kid in his group or takes the kids on a 20 mile walk to sneak over to walmart to get ice cream
generally though, toby is overall pretty sweet behind his little shit antics. they might like lose a camper every once in a while but as a friend theyβre very dependable and loyal. they really arenβt mean at all but sometimes their humor can come off as a little intimidating or off putting
(drugs tw) for another glimpse, from the questions on the app, the three items that toby packed and couldnβt survive without are pot brownies (burnt and stale), a big blanket he always has wrapped around himself in the line for breakfast (good luck getting him up in the morning), and a journal where heβs constantly drawing/writing shitty poetry. heβd be the first to die in a horror film because heβd jump straight into the danger without a second thought. like oh a sketchy house they stumble upon in the woods? heβs going in. creepy groaning coming from it? even better.
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
a bff from when toby was at camp as a kid <3 they both were campers and maybe they lost contact over the years and reunited this year now that toby is working at camp. they could either still fit together perfectly or maybe your muse grew/changed over the years and now things are super awkward and horrible.
a fellow counselor who ends up picking up tobyβs slack from losing track of his kids/venturing off to do things when heβs supposed to be working. maybe your muse has worked at the camp longer and was assigned to toby to make sure heβs staying on track or they just feel like they need to overstep and do this. could 100% lead to bickering bc toby probably doesnβt think heβs doing anything wrong really
people who knew his siblings. like there are at least 6 of them there could be some connection even if your character is living across the country or something. exes, bffs, older characters he hung out with when he was a kid. maybe theyβre on really good terms and still vibe with each other or even not. we can for sure figure something out.
people toby knew at college? roommates ... classmates ... people that tried to befriend them despite the fact that they stuck with themself which could make things awkward.
exes ... unrequited love ... just give me romance. toby 100% would fall in love with a muse who doesnβt give him the time of day. which could lead to enemies to lovers? i donβt know. even just like fun puppy love. iβm big on chemistry so maybe if our muses have it we can just go wild and see what happens
someone who toby looks up to ... might be a replacement sibling. bonus points if this muse is not a good person and toby just kind of follows in the bad influence foot steps.
