Minh Nguyen

In this project, I got to help third years with their stop motion production. This is clearly not something I often do as my main focus has always been 2D animation. However, I found myself pretty handy with crafting and sewing clothes so I'm happy to offer my help. Having this project running along with the 2min Film production has been a little hectic. I managed to get roughly 29 hours of work. I don't really have any struggles or difficulty helping out with work. But most of the work is very time-consuming. I helped with building sets, making furniture, and making puppets,... I am happy to join Cagla and Fatma's team. Both of them are friendly and give clear instructions for work. They are also open to exchanging ideas and criticism of each other's work. From this project, I have learned the skills of cooperation, discussing ideas, and working in a team. I also learned how to plan and manage my time better. It was also a unique experience because it was the first time I had seen the stop motion production process in person. It's fascinating to view the results as soon as the job is done. I also made a good impression with Calga and Fatma, they said they would like to continue work with me even after the project ended.

This is my animation that I contributed in Colour Me group project.   There are still a lot of unfished animation. Some parts are animatic, and some parts haven’t coloured.

Flooring the living room set

Living room Furniture   Making a rug in Turkish traditional pattern, unfortunately I couldn’t complete this because I needed to prioritise my other project at the time.

I got roughly 29 hours.  I really enjoy working with Cagla and Fatma. Both of them are please with my helping and the work I produce. 

I’m glad that this project turned out better than I expect, everyone is friendly and willing to share their valuable experience. Since each artist comes from a different background, they gave me different perspectives on the animation industry. Conversation with Khanh-Ngoc gave me a better understanding of freelancing and the process of working with big studios. Both Khanh-Ngoc and Sanna gave me advice on how to network with others. Kyle made me realise that there are many pathways, and each artist will need to figure out their own. Overall, this project really pushes me to contact artists and be more proactive. I will try to contact and approach more people and hopefully, I can keep in touch with them.  

Final Characters Design 

The animation isn’t finish, it’s still pretty rough at the moment. I also changed the story slightly to the original. The story now is focusing more on the 2 characters Jack - Melly and the conflict they brings upon themselves.
