“Forget Basic Tasks”

Made a cheat sheet for my notes to help me remember, thought it might be useful to others, too!

sure, not a problem!

so, when making wards, keep three things in mind: the energy you’re channeling in, visualizing the ward itself, and programming the ward to protect you. 

in my practice, i make multi-layered wards that all do different things to make sure my protection is as thorough as possible, but when you’re just starting out, i’d recommend two or three layers to start. (some of witchblr may not agree here, but one layer just isn’t enough. spirits are smarter than that.)

so, you’re going to want to make sure you’re in a semi-clear state of mind. then, feel your own energy swelling in your chest. if you’re familiar with the basics of energy work, you’ll know how to do this already. if not, just sort of visualize whatever kind of energy you’d like as a light growing from the middle of your chest. focus on the way it feels, if it tingles or warms or chills, and allow it to grow into a solid mass between your hands and handle it however you like.

visualize whatever kind of ward you’d like (i generally visualize bubbles, because spheres are cornerless and have little way of letting anything in) forming all around you from your chest, or around your room, or house, growing until it envelops the space you’ve chosen. as you do this, program it by chanting or repeating in your mind what it does. visualize it locking like a door, or slamming shut, suddenly turning to stone, whatever you need to do. 

as for what to program it with, i’d recommend things like: “nothing may cross this barrier unless i verbally invite it in.”, “nothing that i deem to have malicious intent may cross this barrier”, etc; but there are lots of other posts on warding here on tumblr.

another great way to create and power wards is to make a totem for them. i myself charge my wards with my amethyst geode, as well as a satchet of sage and sea salt. just program these objects the same way you program wards, basically.

if it’s dark, don’t shine your flashlight into the trees.

if a child approaches and asks you a question, don’t tell the truth.

you may find some harrowing artifacts (i found a ribbon on a tree and some bible pages) pick these up and keep them. they belong to you.

if you walk down a long, straight pathway, you will feel someone behind you. don’t look

you may see people in your peripheral vision; these are the spirits. they won’t hurt you.

if you wish to communicate with the spirits, do not do it alone. cast a protection circle. only ask polite questions.

you will feel bursts of dread and terror. ignore them.

don’t read too much into what the graves say. some things are best left unsolved.

research the history of the graveyard beforehand. you need to know what you might encounter.

some beings may not want you to leave. should you come into contact with one of these beings, leave immediately.

don’t read the hidden graves.

if you find a headless angel statue, don’t look for her head.

if you find a tipped over angel statue, leave her be. she’s only resting.

don’t listen to music. this will distract you from them.

Sooo turns out I had this doubt too. But the marvellous @lavenderlundi was kind enough to explain it to me!

“A curse is a long term spell designed to inflict serious harm onto another person, even in some cases to kill them or bring about a misfortune which would cause them lethal harm. Curses can hurt people physically, mentally, and emotionally and can last from a few months, to a few years, to a lifetime if left unbroken.

A hex is usually less serious than a curse and usually doesn’t bring serious harm to the victim. But these usually bring lots of misfortune onto the victim. Hexes are relatively short term.

Jinxes are simple spells which don’t harm anyone but usually prevent them from doing tasks or things that they can usually do. Such as not being able to speak clearly in front of a crowd, walk without stumbling, not be clumsy, etc. Jinxes are very short term and a very mild, harmless (and sometimes fun) way to get back at someone.”

But what about your own protection, kind witch? Do you have to cast a circle or cleanse your practicing area?

“It really depends witch to witch.

I always suggest to cleanse the space before and after to prevent the negative energy from doing any harm.

And I only say this because some may see casting a circle as a Wiccan tradition or may not agree with it. So just suggesting to cleanse your space before and after is a nice secular way to inform everyone to stay safe and protected <3”

Please, don’t ruin someone else’s life over petty matters. Sometimes it is indeed better to solve matters with your own hands, but measure your feelings and analyse them very well before taking any drastic measures.

So, I have those really important exams and some fucked up elections coming, which stress me out a lot. So I made a little enchantment on my Starstone necklace!

First of all, you should know the starstone can repel negative energy, calm your thoughts, exercises your intuition and creativity, and wake up your mystic side, plus it’s really beautiful to look at!

I started by cleansing it under running water then charging it for how long I could in the sun (element: fire, for protection and force), before the clouds covered it.

Then I made the sigil “I will be calmer”, and charged it with three elements:

Earth: I took a bit of soil from a plant I have and rubbed it on the back of the sigil, so I can keep my feet on the ground when something is going wrong.

Fire: I burned the edges of the paper and bathed the necklace in the smoke. Fire is good for protection.

Water: I put a few drops of water on the sigil. Water really calms me and it is associated with cleansing and purification.

I did all this while saying out loud “I will be calmer”.

Then I placed the necklace over the sigil and charged it with my energy, putting my intent on it.

Then I wait for the water in the paper to dry, and the enchantment will be ready!

So I’m a beginner witch and I’ve read some enchanting and charging tips. I’ll describe what i did here.

First I drew a sigil that says “my magic will be stronger”, (so my sigils will be more powerful) burned it a bit and bathed the pen in the smoke, so it would charge as well. I’ve read that sigils related to force can me charged with fire, so I did that.

Then I placed my hand over it to place the intent on it and let it charge in the sun (fire as well).

The skull: I made the sigil “those who intend to do harm will lose breath”, so that anyone who secretly wants to hurt me, when entering my room, will lose their breath. I did the same thing that I’ve done with the pen(protection sigils can be charged with fire energy as well), but when I placed my hands over it (in order to place the intent), they got really dry, meaning the magic is strong.
