Eruri week day 1: Reincarnation AU ———————— It gets a little tiresome. The third couple he tattooed for the week walks out of his shop; like any other couple he has worked with, they asked for a matching token that would remind them that they are each other’s fated pair. He would often ask them the story behind each design. Most would get a significant mark from the first time the couple have met, which could be a hundred or a thousand of years ago; some have a number of lifetimes shared, some have found each other for the very first time in this life. “The memories of every life you shared will just flash before you. That was when I knew.” or so everyone who has found their partners says,  and for those who have only met in this life, one will witness their other half’s life before they met –since they are one even before they know it.

The cup of tea turned cold.

It did not taste right…

Levi took the can of tea, read the label for the third time, and confirmed that it was the same damn brand and type that Erwin used to bring him. It should have tasted the same.

Right amount of leaves and water. Steeping time as it has always been.

Maybe… there was something missing.

In fact, there was something missing -–an immediately dismissed fact. It was never needed in tea making.

All you need were leaves and water, he argued. His throat was running dry along with the need of a sensory memory to be satisfied.

He repeated the process –boiled the water, added the leaves, let it steep, and took a sip. Still, the frustration kept on getting a hold of him.

This was not going to work. He took the tin can and closed the lid tight without any plans of future consumption.

Placing the newly bought can in the shelf, he took notice of a same tin but quite aged. The tea that Erwin used to give him. The last of it.

He did not want to touch it again. He wanted to save and keep the few things that he could take a hold of the way they had been –the way they were when he could still share the warmth and comfort that a tea could bring.

Levi refused to touch the old can even though he knew that it would quench the thirst of memories and longing, because he knew what was in it.

He knew that inside sat a teaspoon of memories that he would never trade for temporary satisfaction.
