How to make brushing your teeth more fun! 😁
▪︎ Use a kids tooth brush! You may have to brush your teeth for a bit longer if the tooth brush is a lot smaller, but kids designs are often way more fun than not kid's designs!
▪︎Get a fun looking tooth brush holder! It's a small change, but if you like your toothbrush holder it may help you to brush your teeth more!
▪︎Get a Kiddie cup for rinsing! Rinsing is generally something you've got to do when brushing your teeth, and having a cup with your favourite kids show characters, really cute designs or just in a cool color can really help make it more fun!
▪︎ Play music while you brush! Whether it's one song, or a playlist it's guaranteed to make brushing easier & more fun, because you can brush along to the music!
▪︎Bring a stuffie with you! While they may not join you in brushing their teeth, having them there can be a great source of comfort!
▪︎Create a reward chart! A little chart that you can color in, or use stickers to mark when you've successfully brushed your teeth, and once you reach different goals you can do different things to reward yourself! My suggestion for those who have a hard time waiting for rewards, is checking out the dollar store and getting something when you reach your goal! But, you can also reward yourself with extra time for yourself (for age/pet dreaming, watching something new, playtime, being creative or more enjoyable self care like a face mask!)
▪︎Use a kids or a natural toothpaste! This is mostly for those who struggle with the minty flavor of non-kids toothpastes. If the mint burns your mouth, and therefore you don't brush your teeth, using a kids toothpaste is better than not brushing your teeth. Just make sure that it isn't full of sugar, and that it will clean your teeth! Natural toothpastes come in flavors like green apple, cherry, etc. And while they aren't all exact, I can say from experience they're way better than the mint flavor.
▪︎Plan to do something fun after! Positive reinforcement is a wonderful tool, and if you do something enjoyable after you brush your teeth, every single time, your brain will start to associate those positive feelings with brushing your teeth! So, you'll start feeling way better about brushing your teeth!
Feel free to add more! Brushing our teeth is such an important thing, but it can be really difficult to do, especially if you've previously had negative experiences with it. For example, getting in trouble for forgetting to to do it. Parents often make it feel like a chore, and then we don't want to do it anymore because instead of being fun, it's tedious & and an obligation. So if you're like me, hopefully these will help you stay on track with brushing & will help build a positive experience too! Be sure to check the replies for more advice!
