Tumblr users scrambling around about the site possibly dying reminds me of when the site tinierme died
Ok about 2012 a site named tinierme died. it was a dress up avatar game where you could take ur lil person to a town and could talk and message and play mini games with other users and socialize.
The thing was. Tinierme was a HUGE site for illegal gambling. There was a couple mini card games you could play with other users. Some would bet on some games making it a real gamble. [[i broke their system and rigged all the card games to prank people one day but that’s a different story]].
The site was run solely on gacha games [ it’s those capsule machines where you use real money and get a random item] So people would throw several hundred bucks to get items.
So even though everyone knew, no one did anything about it. Till something happened.
Some one spoke up [rumored to be a user’s parents] and California law stepped in where gambling is illegal and illegal for underage people [i was like in high school i think when i first started]. That also the gacha games themselves were considered gambling. So the site got set on fire and had to be shut down.
Everyone got slapped with a notice when they logged in that the site was closing. Everyone FREAKED OUT. Since they invested so much money into the site. Nothing but people throwing around different ways to contact each other. On the last days everyone just gathered around in different parts of the town giving away their items since like why not? final day everyone had a item they wanted.
I gave away everything i owned except for one item cuz it was special to me also only about 3 people on the entire site owned it.
It was so surreal to finally see everyone not care anymore.
Like nothing mattered anymore, No gambling no whining no yelling. No hoarding. Everyone just gave away everything. Like it turned super peaceful randomly.
On the final day a lot of people stood in places in town to do a countdown to midnight when the site said they would shut down.
Everyone counted down. and the site didn’t close at midnight. Everyone freaked out a second time since they gave everything away.
About five minutes after midnight
i remember a dude turning around and saying “we’ll just start again” then instantly the site shut down.

If tumblr ever puts out a official notice they are fully shutting down i think it might end up the same way tinierme did tbh. I hope they give a time and date so ya can have a countdown to see who stays or not.
But im pretty sure tumblr isn’t gonna die altogether. Feels vaguely like a Y2K bug kinda scramble to me.
Tumblr will probably only die when enough people leave it for twitter.
