Skweezy jibs! Ain’t seen him in a minute
And, irrigation canals.
Saves 82% of water evaporation. 💧
You ever notice how when people discuss subculture they always gravitate towards the same 4 midcentury majority white movements? Those being Beatniks, Hippies, Punks and Goths
And the analysis of these movements is always very surface level
beatniks wear beret and listen to jazz
Hippies sing and dance and have sex
Punks
Goths are sad and wear black clothes
Also the movements are all entirely made by leftist anti-capitalist people.

Seems legit
we all hear about kudzu being introduced as "erosion control" in the South but I don't think contemporary people understand on a gut level what that means
these are images from a 1930s pamphlet that endorsed kudzu, entitled "stop gullies: save your farm"
It was Bad.
Invasive plants need to be understood as part of a much larger cycle of incredible violence against the land.
For context: erosion on that scale occurred as a result of our clear-cutting entire states. The land east of the Mississippi used to be covered in old-growth forest to an extent that we literally can’t imagine anymore, because most of us have never seen a forest over 100 years old. It turns out if you remove all vegetation from a landscape, you end up with a bunch of loose soil ready to move downstream. A fast-growing plant that covers everything in dense vegetation sounds like salvation when you’re surrounded by 40-foot deep gullies that get wider with every rainstorm.
A lot of the south too was covered in Canebreaks, basically bamboo forests like a lot of South Asia, I don't know the specifics of the ecology, but bamboo being a grass I assume is rhizomatic like other grasses and forms a big net of roots that prevent erosion. *I assume* (pleez ecologists weigh in)
Yes, the destruction of Canebrakes was a direct cause of this erosion we see here. Canebrakes were destroyed, using slave labor, to make room for cotton plantations. You can read about it here.
Canebrakes built up incredibly rich, fertile soil and are amazing at preventing erosion. They form incredibly strong mats of rhizomes. And their roots are known to go 10 feet deep into the soil.
The erosion we see in these pictures was a result, very much directly, of the Canebrakes being destroyed.
This is a case study in how violence against ecosystems goes so closely hand in hand with violence against people. The violence against the indigenous caretakers of the land, and the violence against the enslaved captives that were forced to clear the Rivercane and work the cotton fields that would degrade the soil into nothing.
Some of the edgiest queers in the world who constantly talk about romanticizing cannibalism and gore is punk or whatever will turn into the literal pope when confronted with anything realistic having to do with sex like im sorry but people fuck in the park at night sometimes always have and always will and you’re going to have to go about your life without advocating for them to be skinned alive in Alcatraz
And— dare I point out the obvious— the policing of these public areas historically was and still is a huge element of police brutality and discrimination against gay people. Undercover cops frequently patrol areas that are known cruising spots and initiate with men so they can make an arrest when the guy reciprocates. They will also arrest men who are seen looking at each other over the urinals in these spots. Or for peeing while wearing a rainbow wristband.
Federal law enforcement turned a person they arrested in the transit hub directly over to ICE.
If you are going to be squeamish about these facts of public life then you should really be aware of how at odds that is with your “punk” “be gay do crime” aesthetics and how your fears are directly implicated in fascist policing of our bodies
not gonna lie, this actually looks like a good idea.
I was camping this weekend and someone pulled out THREE snackleboxes and lemme tell you, absolute game changer
American bento
make your subtitles accurate to what’s being said or i will kill you!!!!
And stop censoring them, goddamn it
Also worth noting, if subtitles don’t match what’s actually being said, that’s something that whatever service you’re watching it on is obligated to correct. You can report them (I forget how, but it should be easy to find), provide the details, and they have to fix it.
This is bothering me for a while, I’ve noticed it before, but this is the first time I’ve thought to catch concrete evidence of it.
I’m playing Divinity: Original Sin on steam, and these are the two most recent achievements I’ve unlocked. The bottom one is necessary in order to get to the point in the game where you can get the top one, but according to steam’s metrics, more players have the top one than the bottom one.
This should not be possible. Am I missing something? I’ve noticed this same thing with other games, so it’s not the game, it’s something to do with the way steam is measuring things. Things like this just drive me insane.
You have to have the sacrifice achievement before you can get sleeping village; how do more people have the former than the latter!? This makes no sense, and it makes me want to send a fucking angry email to steam.

This is bothering me for a while, I’ve noticed it before, but this is the first time I’ve thought to catch concrete evidence of it.

Olivia Jaimes’ Nancy continues to amaze and delight.
This really might be the finest 4th wall joke ever pulled off.
I tried to kill myself in late May of last year, I took a bottle of muscle relaxers. I experience moderate peripheral nerve pain in my feet and legs pretty much constantly, and at the time I had two bulging discs in my lower back that were still undiagnosed that were causing me unbelievable amounts of pain and had been for months. I was in a coma for three days.
Afterward, my mother made a point of telling me that she didn’t cry. Not over the attempt, not when I was in a coma, and they weren’t sure whether I would survive.
I don’t believe that there’s anything in me worth loving, and I don’t believe it when people tell me otherwise. I’m trying so hard and I’m afraid it’s not going to be enough. Every day, I can feel my feet and legs a little less, I can feel and control my hands a little less, and at a certain point, I’m going to give myself over to self-destruction. I don’t know what that’s gonna look like and that scares me.
I don’t have anywhere else to put this. I’ve alienated everyone in my life, I don’t really understand how, I don’t know how to make it right, I don’t know how to meet new people, I’m not sure I want to meet new people. I don’t wanna be this person, in this body anymore. I don’t want to be part of this world anymore.
Im just tired and sad, and I have no idea what to do about it.
