“Oh yeah, I have a list of like places to get his favourite treats in my back pocket to use as bribery for good behaviour.” Crystal smiled towards her partner before taking the final bite of her donut and swilling it down with coffee. A wider smile pulled across her lips at Tim’s kind words and she had to chuckle before shaking her head a little at him. “That’s really nice but trust me, there are many times where I do not feel like I’m balancing very well at all. Or even just good at in one of those worlds. Yeah, the long days suck, especially over weekends.”

“I don’t think we realized the reality of long days until they actually happened.” He chuckled and nodded. “I know I didn’t think the days would be longer than ten but remember that one case where we put in a sixteen-hour day? We closed it but it was still physically and mentally draining. I couldn’t imagine having to do anything else after a day like that. You think this new case we’re working on will be just as bad?”

Patrick walked towards the counter, ordering himself a cup of coffee. He glanced over in Tim’s direction before looking around to see if there were any other spots available which there didn’t seem to be. He made his way over towards him after grabbing his coffee, tapping his finger against the surface of the table. “Mind if I sit with you?”

“Go for it,” Tim nodded slowly as he moved some of his things out of the way. “Best coffee and donut shop I’ve been too.” He looked around the place and smirked slightly. “Always busy this time of day oddly enough.

Jennifer opened the door to the shop, turning her head to see Tim McCallen sitting there, she only knew of the law enforcement people, never did she try to actually get to know them. She walked over towards the counter, glancing over at him as she shook her head to herself, wondering how many people were marking him as a cliche in their heads right now. After getting her coffee, she walked over towards him. “What kind of donut did you get?”

“I was lame and got a glazed donut,” Tim smiled up at the young woman. “It’s my go to when I come here. Never lets me down. What about you? What’s your usual? Just a coffee?” He chuckled softly, he still had the bad habit of rapid-firing questions at people even when he was off the clock. 

“That’s not a bad plan, y’know.” It had been while since Crystal had done anything like that, whenever her time off fell over weekends then she always tried to plan something to do with Liam. “He’s good, he’s adjusted really well which I’m so glad about. I wasn’t sure if he’d struggle. I promised him we’d get ice cream on the way home tonight as a late night treat and that’s all he’s talked about all week.”

“Ice cream will get a kid every single time huh?” he chuckled slightly. He always admired the way Crystal had seemed to balance being a parent and creating a successful career. He had actually written off the kid thing because he didn’t think he could be both a great detective and a great dad. He had to give her the respect she deserved. “It’s really cool that you can balance both worlds. I know it had to be hard to be away from him when we get stuck with the long days.”

Crystal gave small nod as an acknowledgement as she took a bite of her donut, grinning at how good it tasted. “Yeah, they just keep coming, don’t they? Just me and the little guy this weekend, not sure what to do yet. Might try do a bit of exploring if the weather’s nice. What about you?” She leaned back in her chair as she spoke, taking another bite of her donut.

Tim tapped his fingers on his mug as he looked at Crystal, he honestly had no plans but he did always go out and about on his days off. “Not much in the way of plans, I just usually leave the house and go wherever the day takes me.” He smiled. “How’s the little guy been doing?”

Today had been a long day and during the quiet, Crystal had decided to grab a quick treat to help get through the rest of the day. Thankfully it was Friday and she was looking forward to spending the whole weekend with Liam, just the two of them hanging out. As she entered the small donut shop, she smiled as she saw her partner sat over in the corner. The detective quickly grabbed her own treat before making her way over. “You could’ve told me you were coming here, I would’ve made you get my order ready for my arrival.” The brunette chuckled as sat down beside her partner with her own donut and coffee.

“It was an impromptu stop, didn’t want to go home to an empty apartment just yet,” He took a sip of his coffee before he smiled. “It’s been one of those long days huh? Any fun weekend plans?”
