jin kamurai - the emperor
i still cannot spell this word right for the life of me and it's written right there
once again folks we are back in the major arcana with the fool's journey! i want to go ahead and put it out there that the og tarot meanings are slightly sexist in the way that they typically have stereotypical masculine and feminine interpretations (men are strong and rigid and women are nurturing blah blah) and this card is one of those gendered ones. so i'm combining the og meanings with a couple new age ish blog interpretations i found because gendered meanings are dumb imo
so on to the emperor!
honestly this whole thing fits right in line with the jin we've seen in the story so far, especially with how often he's been referred to as a king.
the emperor represents authority and discipline and has a strong lean into following order for the sake of his kingdom. he's a ruler that's been in charge for a long time and his job as a ruler is to serve his people in the best way he knows how: by authority, regulation, and organization. he rules with a strong hand because that's how he's gotten to where he is.
when the emperor appears in a reading it's typically to symbolize that either you're going to be put in a position of authority and will be calling on his wisdom to make decisions, or that you can achieve your goals through the strategies the emperor uses. he gets to where he wants with organization, strength of will, and self discipline.
if the emperor comes up in a love reading, sometimes it can represent difficulty expressing emotion :)
the og card also has a mountain range and the emperor is holding an orb in addition to a scepter to represent his kingdom and rule, but we do have the throne here that jin is sitting on
while the card in reverse represents a tyrannical ruler, jin is in the upright position here, which shows a strong leader willing to do what it takes to keep his kingdom safe. honestly i think this card plays really well into the role we've seen him in for most of the story, and probably shows how he's going to continue through his arcs.
personally i think it's a good sign that he's upright! we know last year before the betrayals he was a good (if tough) leader and then even now as the story has progressed, he's started coming out of his room again and going on missions and we've seen him starting to take small steps to get back to where he was. he's a leader, he was born to be, and he's going to take back his throne.
in his warding card, i thought he was reaching for the queen's chess piece (aka mc), but it looks like he's lifting (her) up instead :D does this have to do with their relationship as it progresses?
he's actually lifting up/reaching for the king piece! the king piece in chess is the one with the typically poofy head and the queen has the spikes, which is the one floating by his head
theres also a castle, a knight, and a pawn down below. while this could just be other identifiable chess pieces, i've been thinking of them as tohma, luca, and kaito :)
