Richard simply stared at his friend, his mouth fallen agape. His fear quickly washed over into pure confusion. “Hang on. Let me get this straight. So, ya’ found somethin’ in the museum, touched it, and basically became a vampire?” It felt weirder to say out loud. Running his hand over his face the Scotsman let out a sigh. “Sorry, it’s just tha’ I feel like I’ve suddenly been teleported into an episode of The Twilight Zone.– Wait… Please don’t tell me ya’ actually have a hunger for human blood now.” Specifically his human blood.

❛ wha’ --- no ! jeeze richie don’t ya listen ?  ❜  the sense of panic urgency doesn’t leave his tone even while he’s trying to tease his housemate, to lighten up the situation. but the more he notices richard becoming AFRAID the more it shoots through his unbeating heart. after all the trouble with his mutation, when it had become apparent that jack was a murder, all the things they worked towards and it just came crashing down in front of jack’s dead eyes. he was heartbroken.

months had flown by since jack had last found himself standing outside of the grand darkened oak doors of the xavier mansion, but once more for the same reason as last: a crime scene giving little to no evidence and thus hindering any use of jack’s mutation and forensic expertise. four knocks had been pressed into the doors following a tune personal to jack and loud enough to echo a fair distance ; a small drizzle of rain dampens the once gelled hair and mists the area around the rundown mansion, a pathetic fallacy almost, as a reflecting mood covers the soft, tired, features of the investigator and he waits patiently for someone to open the door.

there was no surprise as the familiar face of hank answers, only being given a small smile as a return - he’s given up showing the police badge, he’s been around too often to be known by sight now and he turns to face the courtyard as the door closes to collect. hands reach into pocket to keep them from freezing, nose turning red as it fails to warm the rest of his body. it takes a few minutes before the recognisable sound of metal scrapes against the latch and the door opens once again to the site of the bearded professor. walking over, jack doesn’t let the smile fault on his lips, only really showing the urgency in the sparkling greys of his eyes and how his movements towards the mutant are much more rushed than usual.

hands return out of pockets to allow the rucksack on his shoulders to fall into them, fingers rushing to open up the zip and present charles with a brown case folder ( one he’s stolen from work but they wouldn’t realise ). in them hold the photos and IDs of the suspects, one of which jack is certain could be a mutant.

Richard stood there. Petrified. His eyes rounded at the sight of Jack… Of what he had become, whatever that was. At first he wanted to scream, but it was as if he physically couldn’t. Any sort of scream he had was wedged in his throat. “A-… A…Vampire?” he croaked, Richard’s voice rusted and barely audible. “I… I don’t… I don’t understand,” he continued to stutter. “How did this happen? How did you-… But vampires don’t exist…”

he wishes he was panicking - being STUCK in the time period he was bitten meant that jack at least had some time to come to grips with what was happening. that didn’t extend to when he came back however, and as unnatural hues stare at the terrified man in front of him, there’s a deep pit of ANXIETY that starts to swallow him up.  ❛ i went to a museum, they had a new object on display that didn’t have any provinonce - so naturally, i tried to be cocky an’ find out, right ? turns out they ARE real. i have the bite AND teeth to prove it --- ❜
