Alright boring intro time. Nightleaf discovers Rootkit while out gathering herbs and whatnot, very standard stuff. He hesitates only once before bringing her to ShadowClan, Brokenstar needs more apprentices, after all.

Nightleaf, especially young Nightleaf, is historically terrible with kits, so he brings her to Fernshade, who (unfortunately) just had her first litter, Crashkit and Darkkit (Who Nightleaf platonically sired) apprenticed. Rootkit doesn't spend very long with her, as this is Brokenstar Era ShadowClan we're speaking of, and Root quickly gets apprenticed along with them, probably with Stumpytail as her mentor because he's free in my AU, lol. She is not allowed to be an official healer in this AU, because there's already three of them in SHC, and Brokenstar doesn't respect healers or StarClan on principle. If he could take away their jobs he would but he knows some WEAK cats need them and he needs to keep up appearances somewhat, so they stay, reluctantly. Worth mentioning, Nightleaf isn't even a full healer and works both jobs (warrior + healer) overall. Although Rootpaw isn't allowed to be a proper healer apprentice, Nightleaf does occasionally speak with her about herbs and such, very reluctantly at first.

Anywho, I do imagine that the two siblings grow closer to her and treat her as an adoptive sibling kind of. Darkpaw dies during their apprenticeship before they become a warrior, sad. Their cause of death is never specified but I wouldn't be surprised if Brokenstar killed them himself, like Mintkit and Marigoldkit, because they weren't strong nor odd enough. Of course framing it as an accident afterwards. At that point, Crashpaw is decently respected by Brokenstar, and determined to keep Rootpaw alive, she tries to do this by trying to take training even more seriously. Likely encourages Root to bite (living) cats more often, lol. Badgerkit(fang) is also born at some point, only important because of the close connection of sorts.

Now, the lore from here really depends if you think Rootpaw would survive the harsh SHC training to get her warrior name or not. If not, well rest in peace. If Yes, Brokenstar would probably find her interesting, and her warrior name would be something fierce but generic like Rootclaw, Roottooth or Rootfang. I could go on and on from here really, but it's mostly canon plot. She probably wouldn't follow Brokenstar and his exiled cats (Nightleaf included), since Crashfoot doesn't go. I can see Root surviving the Carrionplace disease by a stroke of luck, genuinely. And ShadowClan is in a pretty safe spot when it comes to deaths after that, so I can't imagine her dying, at least not immediately.

At some point Nightleaf gets his semi 'redemption arc'. This post started with Nightleaf remember. And tries to 'mend' his relationship with her, feeling a little bad he brought her to ShadowClan at this point, though it Is quite late for that... As an apology, he would take her connection with StarClan a BIT more seriously, regardless of his personal feelings, and could probably even become her mentor?? Hmmmm.
