Pretty Little Thoughts

(Can I just say before I begin how reminiscent this is for me, to write a theory about a black hoodie….)

My prime suspect : Kevin Keller.

Whomever this Black Hood is that is terrorizing Riverdale is connected to Betty Cooper and their ties have been bound since before high school. How else would they have known about the Nancy Drew crime book that she loved as a child? How else would they have known about Polly and about where to find her? It’s someone close, but not too close like Jughead or Archie.

This season Kevin has really been the character from the outside looking in…. think about it. In the beginning of the series, who was Betty’s best friend besides her beloved Archie? Kevin. Who did she tell everything to surrounding the Polly scandal? Kevin. And now fast forward to season two, who is literally avoiding Betty at all costs? Kevin.

I’d classify his behavior as typical moody teenager jealous over his besties new best friend, but it’s much more than that. Kevin’s excuses about cruising some guy in the woods was just that, a STORY. His body language that entire scene is screaming, “I’m lying to you, is it working?” before he walks away from Betty in the hallway. 

And look at his eyes. I’d say there were green or hazel, wouldn’t you?

Ms. Grundy

His reaction to Ms. Grundy’s murder is also odd, which I didn’t notice until I rewatched the episode. Not only does the camera focus on him and Archie only in particular the whole scene, but unlike every person around him, he doesn’t seem at all surprised by the news. His “oh my god” and glance toward Archie seems entirely rehearsed. 

Midge and Moose

The Black Hood’s next victim was the couple making out in the car and Kevin even visits the guy in the hospital afterward, saying he’s glad he’s okay with a black look in his eyes. Not to mention their conversation where Kevin admits he hasn’t been making great decisions, and he’s not afraid to get hurt, he enjoys it. He enjoys the lies and secrets and “going into the woods” as he describes it. His version of a confession. Moose, the guy, then basically admits they are both gay and that in a town like Riverdale, you have to do what you have to do to not feel alone, even if somebody gets hurt. Kevin stares at him with a guilty look on his face and then gets up to leave.

What a revealing conversation… maybe innocent little ole’ Kevin isn’t all that innocent. Maybe he wants Betty for himself and that’s the whole ‘black hood’ operation. Isolate Betty from her friends in an effort to show her that he was her best friend all along?

“A hungry wolf, a handsome devil
