MCOM220 Final Essay
Social Media has never really been a huge part of my life. So taking Mass Communication 220 was a very difficult process for me to adjust to. Incorporating Twitter AND a Tumblr blog into my every day life was such a hard adjustment.
When Dr. Cecil gave us the assignment to start a fresh Twitter page and a functional Tumblr blog, I thought that this was going to be the easiest part of this class. Little did I know how much time it would actually take to put together these two elements AND keep them current and up to date.
Twitter was nothing new to me when it was thrown into my lap, so that I thought was going to be the easiest part. On my first twitter account I have almost 5,000 tweets. Of course I’ve had this account for several years and retweet celebrities and meaningless nonsense. So challenge one, was to put together a new Twitter page, ok easy enough right? Sure except it’s hard to put that much time into something you’ve already done previously and trying to get those people to follow you back again. Some of my followers from my first account were very confused when I suddenly had two Twitter accounts.
Tumblr was a foreign territory to this girl. I still don’t feel like I understand it to the best of my ability but I’ve given it my best shot. I definitely could have probably done a little bit better on this media platform. But once again, it’s hard to start something new when you have other things that you are used to doing on a daily basis. Social Media isn’t THAT important to me. I’m not really a good writer and putting my words out there for people to read just seems silly. I’d rather write it in 140 characters!
I did enjoy doing the design projects that were assigned in this class. Making a personal brand really helped me when I was in Omaha at the AAF Meet the Pros day. I was able to hand out business cards, resumes and link people to a blog that all had a very similar theme.
Overall this class was very entertaining, although I wish I didn’t have to take it as a graduating fifth year senior. It was hard for me to take it seriously and really get into it. Especially towards the end of the semester when I was working on my campaigns projects as well as trying to get everything ready for graduation. Now that it’s all said and done, I know I could’ve tried harder but at that given time I gave what I could. Campaigns was an exhausting class and thinking about keeping up with a Twitter and Tumblr was not on my top priority. Although it might have been fun to get my mind off of Glidden paint for a little bit!
Thank you Dr. Cecil for putting up with my crazy schedule this semester. It was very much appreciated. I wish you and Jen well in your new life adventure! Don’t miss the snow too much :).

Last Week of School
I don't know how well of a story this tells, but I had a lot of fun making it and so did my helpers. Everyone should do these things before graduating and moving on in the next few weeks!

Contemplation - senioritis
Since I have developed this lovely disease called 'senioritis' I have found myself wondering daily.... "what if I just gave up right now?" What if I didn't go to my last 5 classes, didn't hand in my homework and just stopped? I've even taken procrastination to a new level.... calculating my grades to see if I'd pass my classes still after 'stopping'. Of course I couldn't possibly get myself to do this, but it's really crossed my mind, a lot. It's kind of scary to think about the fact that, I could just be done with school.... forever!
Anyways, so here I sit, waiting for vimeo to upload my last video calculating my grades to insure I graduate rambling on about a made up disease. I should probably just end this post now.

Reflection - Reefer Madness
I went to Reefer Madness last night with a few of my fellow advertising girls. We went in order to support one of our adv peers, Beau. Beau played Jesus and other misc characters. And I have to say (not just because he is my friend) but serious, he stole the show. He was the most enthusiastic, outgoing, crowd engaging person out there! I didn't really care for the plot of the play, and there were some very obvious wardrobe issues. But overall, it was a good time and fun to see Beau!
If you didn't go, you kind of missed out!

Last week of classes
It's hard to believe that the last week of classes is here already. Especially with the snow falling! I think it's safe to say that I've hit a brick wall in my senioritis disease that I've gained over the past semester. It has become increasingly hard for me to do homework and do it seriously. On that note, I just need to keep myself going. I graduate in a week and a half! Woo! Time for the real world ;) Tm
Learning to say no
I don't believe I've taken my own advice yet on how to say no. For some darn reason during the month of May I will be working at 3 different jobs. I seem to have a problem.…

NSAC Presenter experience
As promised I thought I'd take a minute to talk about the 'celebrations and frustrations' of being a NSAC presenter.
I was really not excited at all to be a presenter. I was nominated and voted by my peers. The process to getting to 2nd place was HARD. Going into the process was kind of slow, and didn't see to be too bad. But once we started to memorize our script things got interesting. I only talked for a total of three-ish minutes, but dang! Big words and numbers are hard to set in stone into your head.
The night before the presentation all of the presenters took the night to practice. I was failing miserably at two sections of my script. It was horrible, and I was so nervous for the next day. I thought I was going to have to use my note cards during the presentation.
So once Saturday morning rolled around at about 5am. I finally decided I couldn't lay in bed pretending to sleep anymore so I got up. Went through my lines and nailed them. I was SO grateful that during practice I was finally doing something right!
Once the presentation rolled around our team was doing amazing. We were really working well together and things sounded good. So when it was time to talk in front of the judges we nailed our presentation. It was fantastic, we couldn't have asked for it to have gone any better!
So we ended up with 2nd place and I have never been so proud of something academically! I am SO glad I was a presenter. Even if it meant that I had to give up a lot of my life for a few weeks. It was totally worth it!

NSAC 2013 Glidden Paint
I can't believe our campaign is over! But am very excited to announce that we went to Minneapolis and delivered our campaign flawlessly! We did the best that we could and we ended up with 2nd place. I have never been so proud to be apart of such an amazing group of people. We all really came together to create a cohesive campaign. Stay tuned for another post about my start to finish experience of being a presenter for New Tab Marketing.
Ads part two
I decided to do my ads for my internship. We have our annual Fire and Ice Gala coming up on Saturday evening, which unfortunately I will not be able to attend after all the house and planning I have put into it!
