We all know Mark looks like Hughes, but Lucy has always reminded me of someone else…
You Are Important
Make today the day to spread some love. Tell the person nearest to you that, “You Are Important.” It doesn’t matter if they’re your closest friend or a complete stranger, today could be the day that you change their life forever.

photo-a-day update set
Photo a day update set
Another set of photos to update you all on the photo a day assignment I'm doing in Photo History class.
A handful of images that I've taken for my History of Photography class's photo a day project
These are just a few works that brought me inspiration concerning the art of appropriation, the first being a piece by Jenny Odell in her The Popular Images series. The bottom left image is a part of Thomas Mailaender's Extreme Tourism project, and the last one is Safety and Security by Joyce Neimanas. I gravitated towards these images because I enjoy the whimsy and the pop culture aspect in them.

Weight
Tiffani Allen Photography
Inspired by Henry Fuseli's The Nightmare
Just as Fuseli's painting sparks many theories behind it's symbolism, my reinterpretation of it can also take on many different ideas. In the first of my photographs, the woman has an anxious expression on her face and is creating slight movement as if something is worrying her in her sleep, but the viewer can't visually see what might be going on. The second of the two exposures subtly starts to display what could be upsetting her with the presence of an unidentifiable shadow over her chest. The weight of the shadow can be taken literally regarding the visuals of the image and symbolically in relation to her subconscious.
This was taken from Eric Paré's LightSpin photography experiment. The image is actually a part of a stop-motion video that he and Timecode Lab created and is only one of a huge collection of photos they took for the project. I found the lighting for the video to be interesting because they were able to capture the movement of the light without blurring the people who were dancing during the shoot. They later revealed how they accomplished this in a behind-the-scenes clip which can be found online. I also enjoy dramatic lighting, as do most art viewers, so the illuminating effect within each image captured my attention.
Paperwork
Tiffani Allen Photography
This photo was inspired by some happenings that two close people to me encountered this past week with bosses...bosses who created unfair and unjustified situations for them. I asked the subject to simply write a letter and destroy it in any way. She began with the typical ripping of the papers, as would most people decide to do, and, as the time progressed, that turned into a mini bonfire. I wanted to portray with this photo how the lack of care for people into today's businesses can force them into seemingly unstable mindsets, which seems to be a growing problem.
Seven Crayons
Abe Morell
A photo that caught my attention right away was Abelardo Morell's Seven Crayons which is a part of his Childhood series. In this piece, and in the series as a whole, I see nostalgia in subject matter and in the mood set by the black and white nature of the image. I, myself, tend to be nostalgic a lot of the time reminiscing on my childhood simply because I appreciate living like a child; thus, I could relate to the photograph.
Prisma
Tiffani Allen Photography
The second photo in this post, my recreation of Morell's work, is my way of displaying my desire to hold onto a childlike mentality while still maturing during the continuation of my life. I've decided to keep my image in color as to portray present or modern times, as though time has passed since childhood, also shown by the late afternoon lighting. The colors emote the liveliness or brightness of a child of which I have kept and hope to keep. What I utilized to symbolize the inevitable developing maturity was the subject matter itself: the pencils. Prismacolor colored pencils are seen as high quality materials in the artistic world, definitely a step up from crayons you might have used as a child in kindergarten. In essence, the image that I have captured is me.
Narnia
Tiffani Allen Photography
This top photo doesn't live up to what it could be, in my opinion. Something about it, which I believe is the edges of the image, is unclear and makes it look as if the picture is cluttered. In my eyes, the many branches already add a sense of chaos to the composition, and the unintentional blurriness clashes with that. I don't think the photo is terrible; I like the subject. It's just that what I stated earlier bothers me every time I view the picture and that takes away from the image as a whole, for any viewer with any piece. I suppose that could also be a tactic to get viewers to look at the art work longer, it just has to still print well.
Fly

The second photo, in comparison, is much better to me. It's clear and the subject is easily distinguishable, thus allowing the viewer the enjoyment of the image.

To Paradise
Tiffani Allen Photography
Hi, I am Tiffani and this nature shot is one I took down in Florida this past summer. I prefer photographing nature and minuscule things normally looked over but also would like to broaden my spectrum in the photography field. I hope that as this course progresses, I can explore even further into the world of photography and begin to discover my true niche.
