Iβm working on some smaller paintings to turn into stickers and magnets. This first one is a cobalt arowana! I really enjoy drawing and painting fish, and arowana are by far one of the coolest fish species that still exist in the world. They look like something ancient or like a creature from a fantasy world. Itβs no wonder theyβre a staple in the monster hunter series.
I saw a huge flock of these Black Skimmers when I visited Hunting Island State Park last year. Theyβre such interesting birds with their long asymmetrical beaks and black/white/red color scheme. I made some stickers from the painting and they look pretty cool!
Some process photos :)
One of my friends favorite characters from Witch Hat Atelier is Tetia, so this one is for you! The clouds were probably the most challenging to paint
I tried out a printing service and I'm pretty happy with the results! I don't know if anyone would want a print, but they're currently on sale for 10% off (along with everything else). Check it out if you're interested: https://www.etsy.com/shop/TideAndTalonPress

I've been wanting to go bigger with my paintings, and this was the largest yet! 18x24 inches, which required a collection of 45 images composited together to digitize it. I'm including my progress photos for this painting as well, which I've titled "Angelic Reception."
I went back to my comfort zone: koi fish. I will potentially make this design into a woodblock print, but I wanted to see how it looks as a painting first. I'm also experimenting with progress collages, so let me know if you find it interesting!
The koi fish painting should be finished now! I'll post better images for it later. I'm really enjoying getting to paint every evening, but I keep staying up too late, hehe....
Going to start posting WIPs because I just don't have enough finished stuff to post regularly.
Every time that I begin to paint, I find myself thinking "I have no idea what I'm doing," and yet my brush never stops moving. I'm always adding layers and building the image up, even though at the conscious level I would swear that I don't know what to do.
I think that is perhaps one of the things I enjoy most about traditional art. The creation feels so intuitive. I'm not picking colors from a chart and messing around with layer properties; I'm just mixing up paints and slathering them onto canvas. My thinking, rational mind occasionally screams at me that I don't have a plan - and that I surely need one - yet I get to disregard it and continue on.
Will the painting be good in the end? Who knows. But I'll certainly have enjoyed the creation of it... and maybe that's enough.
I was planning to make a chickadee linocut print and did a bunch of sketches in preparation, but in the end, I never got around to starting the carving. I would still like to do that, eventually, but I'm rather slow π

I'm really happy with how this print turned out! I honestly love the challenge of carving letters the small detail lines on the deer were similarly fun to carve. I was eager to make a print for Mother's Day for this year and I'm glad to have technically achieved that goal.
There was a kitten camping out on my bird feeder at the start of the winter and I assumed she belonged to a neighbor...until I got video on my feeder cam of her eating bird seed (and presumably starving). So, I set traps and converted her into a pet.
Over the weekend I finished making my print for Mother's Day, and I'm happy to finally be able to post the finished image. There are some prints available online if you'd like one. Thanks for checking it out!
Music from the movie "Wolf Children," which is a lovely movie about being a mother.
Mother's Day print is in the process of printing, but I don't want to post the photos yet... so have a horse sketch instead.
A quick preview of the upcoming Mother's Day print. The second block is in the process of being carved, so hopefully it will all be finished and printed soon!

I want to show off the shaker charm made by @bird-thingg since she's on a bit of a hiatus from social media. The entire design began as a set of watercolor paintings. I think she did an amazing job!
A sketch that I made of a small heron I found walking around under the tall grass in a brackish marsh. I'd like to identify it, but it's a bit tough without colors π
