Pairing - Scarecrow x Urbach-Wiethe disease!reader
Synopsis - reader has Urbach-Wiethe disease and works as a nurse in Arkham assigned to Scarecrow
One of the many rules of being a nurse in Arkham Asylum is to never let them sense fear cause once they do; they will use it against you whether itâs to mess with you or to manipulate your emotions to get what they want.
But for you that isnât much of an issue due to your âdisorderâ. Which you have kept to yourself due to no one truly asking about fears or phobias to you or cause they think youâre bluffing when you tell them. Maybe thatâs why they hired you⊠But regardless you knew what you signed up for.
Itâs a chilly autumn evening when you start your shift. You walk through the security doors, pin your staff code in and put your items away in your assigned locker before heading to the counter to be assigned your patients are for tonight like you have been for the past months youâve worked in the asylum.
The monitoring guard at the counter stared at her with a serious expression through the glass as he dispensed the folder containing her patients.
âJust youâre usually nurse Y/N. Just a heads up, you have a new patient on roster brought back in yesterday night by the commissioner. Heâs a high level threat so be cautiousâ
Youâve been told this many times before but with your medium to low risk patients. You nod with a soft smile as you walk through another security door with a tray of different prescription bottles to one of the main sitting areas where patients were free to chat, play chess, read or watch the tv provided.
âMr Wesker, your 4 oâclock medication.â
you say as you place the tray down and hand him a disposable cup and the medication as you are ready for what he always says.
âAnd yes Mr Wesker, Scarface is fine and monitored dailyâ
He didnât need to say anything at all, he just nods and has the meds.
You want over to your next patients as they complain about their downfalls, mutter to themselves or say how everyone treated them wrong causing them to be this way. Youâve grown used to it.
You move out to the cells to continue your rounds.
âMr Langstrom, your medication is here-â After so say that you watch him rush over to the glass opening and say
âTHE LOUD SCREECHES OF BATS⊠WONâT STOP!!!â
As you stare blankly you dispense two pill through the slot before saying.
âThis is new medicine that can reduce it and should calm you down Mr Langstrom.â
You watch as he grab the pills and finishing them before curling up on the bed muttering incoherent sentences as you walked away.
You make it through another security checkpoint to the maximum security building.
âYou have Crane next, donât you?â The guard says as you look up to look at the guard.
âI do. I was told he was brought in yesterday night, correct?â
âYeah, you know he used to be a psychiatrist here before becoming one of the loons in this place but I guess thatâs what happens when you work with a bunch of them everyday.â
With that you nod as you go to Craneâs cell only to be stopped with a warning for the guard.
âJust a heads up, donât let him get into your head cause once he does heâll find your fears and use them to his advantage. So whatever you do, donât show fear.â
With that the final security door opens and youâre in the long hallway of cells. As you walk you pass noticeable figures youâve seen before on the news.
Passing villains such as Poison Ivy, Two Dace, Harley Quinn and Riddler before stopping in front of Scarecrowâs cell. As you looked at the patient information on your clipboard you look into his cell to see him sitting on the edge of the cell bed writing in a small book.
âProfessor Crane, time for your evening medication.â You call out as you open the cell deposit tray only to find an array of dead insects in the box.
He watches your reaction carefully like a predator watching his prey. You however stare at the array of dead insects for a moment before taking them out and placing the assigned amount of medication in the box and closing it.
You look at him through the glass before speaking again.
âMr Crane, please have your medication.â You say in the same tone as before.
He gets up and walks over staring intensely at you before retrieving the medicine.
âWhereâs the old nurse that I had before?â
âTransferred. Iâm your assigned nurse handling your medication, Mr Crane.â
He looks at you up and down.
âThe bugs were for them, they used to scream oh so loud when they saw them. But you merely looked at them and tossed them away.â
Having the pills before he speaks again
âSo far the only nurse Iâve seen not tremble in fear while walking through this part of the asylum.â
âItâs not so bad besides bugs donât bother me.â
With those final words you walk back to the security area.
As days progressed Scarecrow would try t figure out what you feared all to a fail. Spiders, rats, loud noises he tried whatever he could to get a sign of fright.
It wasnât till one night as you came to do your round at Scarecrow when you stop in front of his cell he punches the glass hoping youâd at least flinch. Nothing.
âFEAR ME!â He says out of anger. âWHY WONâT YOU FEAR ME!â
âMaybe you need to try a different approach. Now please take your medicine.â
âDifferent approach. I have tried everything I can get my hands on but nothing. Rats, insects, noises, threats. Nothing.â As he begins to pace his cell before stopping. âI swear if I had my fear toxin I would use it on you then Iâd see fear in your eyes.â
You write down some notes before speaking. âI thought you would have gotten it by now?â
He stares at you with angry confusion âwhat are you talking about?â
âUrbach-Wiethe disease. In short the part responsible for fear is destroyed making fear nonexistent to meâ
He stares at you for a moment in slight disbelief before slowly changing to disturbing interest.
âIs that so⊠well you have now sparked more of my interest and now i think weâll have some interesting conversations from now on.â
He turns away, retreating further into his cell causing you to walk away as you realise that you have done the one thing you were warned about him. But what you didnât want to admit to yourself is that you were slightly happy that he is interested in your disease and was happy to wait to see him again.
