Character: James Bond Appears In: Various books and films in the James Bond franchise Commonly misinterpreted as: Straight
But really: James Bond’s sexcapades with women (which he somehow always manages to find time for in between using fancy gadgets to save England and the world) are such a series staple that there’s even a term for his lovers: “Bond Girls”, but despite the fact that many consider him a paragon of heterosexuality due to his long list of female partners, James Bond is interested in other genders as well.
Several iterations of the franchise have suggested Bond’s queerness with homoerotic undertones, such as in the film Casino Royale, when an oiled Bond is tied up by the male villain to a bottomless chair naked to have his genitals whipped.
The movie Skyfall, however, included what was tantamount to an admission of bisexuality from Bond. The first time that Bond meets the villain, Silva, on an isolated island, Bond is (once again) tied to a chair (though this time, clothed). Silva makes many sexual-innuendo-laced comments and intimations with his facial expressions and physicality, gently unbuttoning the captive Bond’s shirt and stroking his chest, neck, and jaw. Silva laughs as he becomes more intimate with Bond, assuming he is making the heterosexual agent uncomfortable, and with a wink, as he strokes Bond’s thighs, says, “Well, first time for everything,” clearly referring to what he imagines is Bond’s inexperience with men. Bond grins and says, “What makes you think this is my first time?“
James Bond is bi/pan.
With many thanks to RT for this write up.

Silva dyes his hair blond and wears blue contacts in imitation of Bond. Whether it's a compliment or an "anything you can do, I can do better," remains to be seen.
There’s an opening scene where you first meet James Bond. I believe one of the greatest meetings of the Bond villain and Bond in the history of the franchise. It’s a fantastic scene… And then it really does seem like you’re coming on to James Bond in a very sexually aggressive way. Am I interpreting that correctly? [x]
I was very conscious that I needed a great actor to fill in the blanks. There was a certain amount of invention and it needed someone to ground it in reality. And Javier’s great thing was that he made it a human being, it’s not some construct. He somehow managed to find a beating heart to this person that’s vulnerable and weird and theatrical and funny and camp – all of these things that make him very disturbing. — Sam Mendes on Javier Bardem
