If a female character can only wear skimpy clothing for some given reason, that is an excuse to sexualize her.

If an organization can only be populated men, that is often an excuse to not have to create female characters.

Second, there is a reason why a story is set in space or has a minotaur protagonist. It’s called a vision. You can’t just replace it with India or a wheelchaired woman and expect the writer to write it with the same kind of drive. This was an ide they felt the need to explore, not your sugary tripe world of kumbayah and no violence.

Third, the writer owes you nothing. You are not his buddy and paying 15 bucks for a book does not make him your servant.

Fourth, it is his right to write helium-filled tits, regardless of whether you like it or not. Your only right is to fuck off and go read something else. Or write the tripe yourself from scratch.

Fifth, everything is an excuse. Setting the story in space and creating aliens resistant to conventional arms can be an excuse to add spaceships and lasers. You are just cherrypicking the ones you don’t like.

Sixth, the fuck you mean you can do anything since it’s not a historical documentary. Are you out of your fucking mind? Have you read a single creative writing book? If you did, you’d know what a vital part research is or what the mantra “write what you know” means. Just because your fucking fanfic pals write tripe where you can have fridges in nazi occupied Poland (yes, that’s an actual fic), doesn’t mean serious writers have to sink to your level of “fuck research, everything is made up anyway” fanficker hacks. Many choose to be historically accurate and that’s their goddamn right. I am reminded of a friend who was pushed to make her travelling protag a woman when the story was set in a time when they weren’t allowed to travel unaccompanied by a man.
