It seems that this part of the list is the year in eccentric, artistic indie darlings. This should be a surprise to no one. Joanna Newsom was another established artist to bring/maintain her A-game with another record. Divers is probably her most accessible record, which is interesting because the sound is just as dense and unique. The stories are still incredibly rich and rewarding, which the music is perfectly suited for. With her strong sense of storytelling and embracing the oddities of her voice, this album shows Newsom to be a descendent of the school of Kate Bush, which is honestly one of the greatest compliments I can think of. It’s not enough to just make original, unparalleled art, you have to be the best at it, which this album certainly shows her doing.

With interest in Lana Del Rey’s upcoming album “Honeymoon” at a fever pitch, it can’t be surprising that the title track has sprung a leak. It’s really, really good. This will do nothing to diminish the anticipation.
