Born in Abarán, Murcia, in 1985, the Spanish artist Bran Solo defines himself as «Good person, painter, illustrator, designer and photographer, in addition to many other things that I never wanted to be«.
Graduated in 2006 in Computer Application Development and Database Analysis, he worked for seven years for the technology sector.
In 2010 he participated in the official program of parallel events of the European biennial of contemporary art Manifesta, in its eighth edition, with an exhibition at the Casas Consistoriales space in Mazarrón.
In 2012 he decided to abandon his work as a computer scientist and lifestyle to dedicate himself fully to drawing and enrolled in the Murcia School of Art, leaving behind family, partner and home and moved alone to a studio in the city of Murcia.
Bran’s Right Eye Only - A lesion or scar is seen in the marked area that deflects the light that is projected on the retina It is in the same school where he discovers that an eye condition, of unknown origin, conditions the perception of him since childhood. A macular lesion, formed by scars in the central area of the retina, distorts images in a way that he describes as “kaleidoscopic,” sharply multiplying images with high contrast or brightness. In this way, he discovers that he cannot safely find the line that separates a white plane from a black one, he confuses the volume with the void, the positive with the negative and, except in specific lighting circumstances, perceives all the objects multiplied by up to eight or ten copies, depending on the distance, and especially those that are luminous, making this difficult to view screens and projections as well as elements that emit or reflect moderate amounts of light. This condition, which forces the brain to interpret reality very subjectively, gives it a “unique vision”, which he humorously maintains “is the most important quality an artist should have”.
He finished his studies in 2014 and has a degree in Plastic Arts and Illustration Design, presenting in his final project the Laguna Tarot for which he is qualified with the highest score of the jury, which grants him an Erasmus grant that takes him to Porto.
After his stay in the Portuguese city, he moved to Madrid where he officially began his artistic career. He decides to move to Barcelona in 2015 where he continues his work.
In 2015 he held his first solo exhibition: «Knife flower perfume«, at Kipfer & Lover, Málaga, which was a great success.
He returns to Murcia in 2016 where he currently resides.
From that moment on, his career progressed exponentially and in a short time he was able to show his work at the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Malaga, at the ESTAMPA fair in Madrid, at the NB7 gallery of the FLECHA fair in the same city, as well as in other spaces such as Échale Guindas Galería, Matraca Gallery, VillaPuchero Factory, Factoría de Arte y Desarrollo, Swinton & Grant, The Folio Club, Nigredo Espacio, El Gallinero or Vergel Espacio. In addition, he collaborates with the editors of 180hilos exhibiting work in serial edition at the MACBA and CCCB in Barcelona, CAIXA Forum Madrid and the Center Pompidou in Malaga, as well as at the ARCO 2018 Art Fair (Llibreria Laie Stand) and manages to become a niche in specialized stores and art galleries inside and outside of Spain.
In 2018 he publishes for sale the Laguna Tarot, a research and personal development work based on the foundations of psychoanalysis.
He is currently investigating the relationship between science and art, which he states: “they are inseparable to me”, in addition to being interested in the graphic study of other subjects such as masculinity, fear and human emotions, love and blindness.

Having been in this business for a while, you kind of see and get a glimpse of everything doing film and television. I think it seemed like a natural progression to go into directing, and I hope to explore more of it, because it’s very exciting and a really good way to collide all the things that you’ve known and experienced in the business and put them all into one.
