Re: MISS MISERYGUTS
I wanted to post this only on Twitter, but the new account limits make it difficult to have any reach.
I'm not sure how much reach this post will have, either, but I'd like to at least try.
Given Marlowe's (R.I.P.'s) past behavior toward a close friend, and their general attitude toward people with disorders like BPD, I believe this song (MISS MISERYGUTS) to have ableist undertones, possibly even written specifically about my friend.
I doubt this will gain much traction as I am posting from a burner account. But I don't want to start a harassment campaign here, only to raise awareness and sensitivity.
Regardless of how/if they react to this, I hope they and their friends are able to take accountability for their own mistakes and inconsiderate behavior, and are more sensitive toward other mentally ill people in the future, not just those who are mentally ill in a palatable way.
My main purpose isn't to slander Marlowe, but to stand up for my friend, even if I am doing it anonymously (for now, at least.)
Here is the full document with details. If you suffer from strong symptoms of BPD or similar disorders, I recommend you avoid reading it to avoid any kind of self-hatred or internalized ableism.
This is not meant to be a callout and I am not saying Marlowe is irredeemably ableist. I would just like people like Marlowe to be more openminded and sensitive. Please do not bombard them with accusations or questions, but please do keep all this in mind when interacting with this song in particular.
I'm logging back in to share that "C" (the friend discussed in this document) has made its own document elaborating on what I've written as well as explaining its experiences in more detail here C has decided to delete the document due to risk of it and its friends being found and harassed, so I am removing the link to it. I cannot delete the original document because I lost the password to the email I used. I apologize for any inconvenience.
If you read what I have written, I would like you to read its own words too, as it was the person directly affected by Marlowe's actions.
I do want to reiterate I am not trying to paint Marlowe as an irredeemable person who should be deplatformed. This is something I think is an indicator of a larger issue of ableism in the vocasynth community. Given what has recently come out about GHOST, I also think it's possible that their own ableism against people with NPD may have influenced Marlowe, since I believe they were friends when Marlowe was still a teenager. As far as we know, though, GHOST has no direct involvement in this specific incident. My own goal is to spread awareness of the normalization of this specific kind of ableism from popular vocasynth producers and to hopefully push back against it to make the community safer for everyone.
