Good morning London, how do you think you will cope with small town life? And do you think small town Washington state is ready to cope with you?
Yesterday, while waiting for the post office lady, I walked into a Tavern that I have been eying for awhile. We have driven by it multiple times in our property hunt but we never had time to stop.
The Tavern was FILLED with Trump memorabilia. A dead deer mounted on the wall, wearing a MAGA hat and Trump stickers on it's antlers. Flags on the wall. A picture of Trump over the bar. "NO MEXICANS ALLOWED" scribbled on a piece of paper and taped to the door of the bar ...... I sat at the bar, looking at all the Trump stuff, talking to Big on the phone and telling him about the lesbian/transexual/circus performers that came up from Portland to visit me at the Naked-Place on the mountain. And how I want to learn how to use their pronouns correctly. And the guy, with the yellow eyeballs sitting next to me, mumbled "fags" under his breath.....And at that moment, a truck with hundreds of broiler baby chickens drove by. Some of their heads, hung lifeless, dead, trapped between the bars of the dozen cages stacked on-top of one another. The others huddled against other birds, peering out at the world, probably their first time outdoors..... Just seven weeks old. Just babies. Going straight to their death. Just babies.
And it shook me.... And Big goes, "We live in farm country. You will have to get used to it. That is just how things are."
But I hope that I never get used to any of it. There is no excuse for "that is just how it is" ..... Because just 100 years ago, human slavery was "just how it was" ....... Shooting native Americans in the 1800s was "just how it was" and there are countries where women are stoned to death for being raped and that is "just how it is"
BUT that got me to thinking, that this is the sort of place that I need to be. This is a place that I can make a lot of good things happen.
