I have solved my TDF plans! (well like, 95% solved)

For the Whimsy braid + Magic Buffalo batt (both from Fossil Fibers)

1/4 of the braid is getting set aside for tiny spinning. 1/4 is gonna be for some color experimenting (spinning 1 ply along the full colorway and the other from the center out and mirrored) and then the last 2 oz will go with the 2oz of the Magic Buffalo batt to make sort of a faux fractal

Fighting off the perfectionism imps by posting something - anything.

Their original was a yo, k3tog, yo, which gives what I'm calling a positive line (as opposed to a negative line of holes). The other two options I tried (which diverged from my one intended change) were 1. yo, k2tog (in that order regardless of which side of the fabric I was working on) and 2. yo, k2tog on one side but k2tog, yo on the reverse.

Here's some images of the three and how I've noticed the stitches line up differently based on how you arrange your decreases! It's neat to see how the stitches in the second photo stack diagonally while the ones in the third photo stack vertically with horizontal bars between them (though my tension leaves much to be desired lol)

I'm also interested in trying out a decrease away from the yo to see if it gives a more balanced look to the lines as there's a slightly heavier line along the side with the consistent decreases.
