“This particular project is about my father, but it’s also about so many other people’s fathers. There are so many people who were involved in the Panthers,” she says. “So many people have a file like this on them, many of whom are still in prison, or many of whom might not have a child who happens to be an artist and can use their family as a way to talk about the greater black community and American history.”

For many, the ongoing conflict in Syria is a distant problem faced by people thousands of miles away.
But via Twitter, 7-year-old Bana al-Abed has shared her personal story within this horrifying tragedy.
Since September, al-Abed and her mother Fatemah have been tweeting to the world about the terror and fear they face living with the daily bombings in Aleppo
Their account has garnered 186,000 followers in the process.
Though they posted a farewell message on Sunday in the face of heavy bombing, the family is still alive
Chelsea Manning has only 10 days to secure 62k more signatures on her petition for the commutation of her sentence and release. please take a moment to sign. you do NOT have to be american to sign the petition.
Chelsea Manning now only has 7 days to secure 52k more signatures on her petition. The signatures, overwhelmingly, are from tumblr alone. PLEASE continue to circulate this. there has never been a better time to campaign for chelsea’s commutation than right now. signing the petition and confirming email takes ~51 seconds. please do this for Chelsea Manning.
I am literally begging anyone who hasn’t signed to sign and circulate this petition. Chelsea Manning is a woman being held in a men’s prison enduring cruel and unusual punishment. This is the farthest Chelsea Manning has gotten amongst the number of campaigns out there right now. Please sign, please circulate and please remember Chelsea Manning. There is no better time than now to campaign for her release.

[BREAKING: #NoDAPL November 25th, 2016, 5:40pm. Confirmed that The US Army Corps of Engineers has given an eviction notice to the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ camp. The ramifications and process is still unclear. Expect statements from Standing Rock, as well as key camps and organizations, shortly.]
Help the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ with donations, supplies, and legal funds.
The following statement from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s Chairman, Dave Archambault II, can be quotes in part of in full:
“Today we were notified by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that on Dec. 5th, they will close all lands north of the Cannonball River, which is where the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ camp is located. The letter states that the lands will be closed to public access for safety concerns, and that they will allow for ‘free speech zone’ south of the Cannonball River on Army Corps land.
Our Tribe is deeply disappointed in this decision by the United States, but our resolve to protect our water is stronger than ever. The best way to protect the people during winter, and reduce the risk of conflict between water protectors and militarized police, is to deny the easement for the Oahe crossing, and deny it now.”
Last night, as the temperature in Standing Rock plunged below 30 degrees, hundreds were blasted with water cannons.
As a Native woman who has been to Standing Rock three times, and whose health now prevents me from making a fourth trip, I have my own asks. Call every number put in front of you. Jam every phone line. Look at the target list of financial institutions supporting this pipeline. Pick a bank. Shut it down, just like we did in Chicago on Saturday and people did in Philadelphia this morning. The Trump administration hasn’t even taken hold yet, and I watched over a livestream last night as my friends and people were battered with water streams that can tear skin from flesh and eyes from sockets. I watched my people hold space and scramble to save one another as drops of water froze to razor wire.
I know marginalized people around the county are organizing for their own survival right now, and sitting around tables discussing the difficult days ahead. But a strategy of protection, defense and obstruction cannot wait for the inauguration of an autocrat. It must be applied here and now.
Please show us that you see us. Please do all you can to stop this.
If you cannot travel to Standing Rock, or support or organize an action where you live, consider contacting one of these Sheriffs and police departments that have loaned out the officers who are abusing Native peoples in Standing Rock. Jam their phone lines and tell them to bring their people home. If your community is on this list, actively organize to recall the deployment.

Some photos from #SayHerName a vigil in remembrance of Black women and girls who were murdered by police. The event was brought together by Kimberlee Crenshaw and the African American Policy Forum. Stop Patriarchy was an official sponsor of this event, along with many other organizations. The program was incredibly moving, emotional, and powerful. Representatives of the sponsoring organizations accompanied family members of those whose lives were stolen by police, and read pieces on what these people were like in their lives, and the circumstance of their murder. Many of the families had never done anything like this before. They were all extremely grateful to see so many people out there standing with them, and fighting to STOP murder by police.

More than a dozen teen girls gone missing raising fear in the community.
Every other week one or more girls just vanished off the streets and people are scared about their loved ones. Most of the girls are colored and this raises even more questions.
Police says that it might be a forced prostitution.
Six of the teens were reported missing this month alone, including two who vanished June 23.
The list of missing girls released Wednesday by Councilman Andy King is long enough to fill the roster of a softball team.
1)15-year-old Karla Gros
2) Sierra Rivera, 14, who was last seen on June 2 near White Plains Road.
3) Ashley Bissal, 16, was last seen on June 23, leaving her Grand Concourse apartment.
4) Emily Arroyo, 15, has been missing since April 26, when she was supposed to come home from a juvenile program on Bergen Ave.
5) Jada Jordan, 12, was last seen about 8:30 a.m. on March 23 inside Bronx-Manhattan Seventh Day Adventist School on 1440 Plimpton Ave. in Mount Eden, police said.
6) Miracle Mann was last seen at 3:15 p.m. on June, 23, 2016 leaving her residence.
7) 12-year-old Jada Jordan, who is missing from her Bronx, New York home. She was last seen March 21, 2016.
This is our duty to help. If you know anything about these girls ,please, contact the police!
There are so many hate crimes happening every day and there are so many crazy people on the streets, so please stay woke!
"I would love to see some hedge fund manager on Wall Street who might be sniffing a little cocaine here and there to stay awake realize that he can't get his $150,000 worth of deductions unless he submits to a drug test."
Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) has had enough of the growing movement to drug test poor people who need government assistance. So on Tuesday, she’s introducing a bill that she says will make things fairer.
Her “Top 1% Accountability Act” would require anyone claiming itemized tax deductions of over $150,000 in a given year to submit a clean drug test. If a filer doesn’t submit a clean test within three months of filing, he won’t be able to take advantage of tax deductions like the mortgage interest deduction or health insurance tax breaks. Instead he would have to make use of the standard deduction.
Her office has calculated that the people impacted will be those who make at least $500,000 a year. “By drug testing those with itemized deductions over $150,000, this bill will level the playing field for drug testing people who are the recipients of social programs,” a memo on her bill notes.
Moore has a personal stake in the fight. “I am a former welfare recipient,” she explained. “I’ve used food stamps, I’ve received Aid for Families with Dependent Children, Medicaid, Head Start for my kids, Title XX daycare [subsidies]. I’m truly grateful for the social safety net.”
