WAS THE ANSWER not obvious? A Mandalorian’s life was one of service to his clan and family. Vega and the youngling’s life carried priority over all other facets of his existence. If he lost them, he wouldn’t deserve his beskar steel. His vibroblades had sliced through her pursuers and his Amban rifle had disintegrated storm troopers in the hope that they would find peace.

His fights were never meant for himself.  Dyn turned the pilot seat to face the young woman. In hyperspace, the white streaks of light reflected upon the metal. “That I won’t be enough in a fight.”  The modulator in his voice kept his words from carrying too much emotion, but he knew how much he already revealed.

Geralt didn’t seem like a warrior who used many words. The Mando found that quality to his advantage since he never counted eloquence among his skill set. “My child needs a teacher,” Dyn began, motioning towards the little one as the youngling chased a frog. He found no point in playing this card close to his chest if the other man proved an enemy. It would end in someone’s death either way.

I think a lot about Mando’a as a language and I try to incorporate pieces into my roleplaying because it’s interesting and may provide some insight into how Dyn thinks when interacting with others. Here are some highlights:

 The language is fairly gender-neutral in the sense that you usually rely on context to understand the individual’s gender. If you must specify gender, there are specific words for it. Mandalorians don’t really place much emphasis on gender, but they do have certain roles for men and women, depending on if there is a child to rear.

Laandur, or "delicate", is an insult to Mandalorian woman. A Mandalorian looks for physical strength and endurance, good parenting skills, and fighting prowess in their significant others. 

To adopt a child, you say:  I know your name as my child."  BOOM NEW KID. 

To marry someone, you say in a private setting:  "We are one when together, we are one when parted, we share all, we will raise warriors." BOOM WE’RE MARRIED. 

Despite how easy these vows are to say, Mandos take this shit seriously. A major insult for them is implying that they’re not a good father or mother, and they cherish fidelity in their romantic relationships. Same-sex and gender marriage are also accepted in Mandalorian culture and they’re fully integrated into Mandalorian society. 

They don’t have a future and past tense since they believe in living in the now. Another interesting factor to go along with this is they don’t have a passive tense. The verb is either active or removed from the sentence as a whole. 

Their insults ( which there are A LOT ) are based on personal qualities like laziness, stupidity, and lack of hygiene. An insult towards parentage or appearance will not land because it’s like ???

IT’S  NOT  THAT  HE  DOESN’T  UNDERSTAND .     large  eyes  blink  up  at  the  helmeted  face .   the  child’s  familiar  with  the  presence ,  with  the  presence  of  the  mandalorian .     he  reaches  for  the  hand  poking  at  beskar  covered  chest ,  a  soft  coo  as  he  tiny  arm  is  UNABLE  to  make  contact .     ❝    aah  ?     ❞     it’s  not  that  he  doesn’t  understand ,  no ―― he  already  knows  who  his  caretaker  is .

THE CHUCKLE CAME out warm and low. “A strong effort,” he complimented in Mando’a, running a gloved hand over the Child’s wrinkled head. “If you do not become a sorcerer, you will be a worthy Mandalorian.” 

The finger that pointed at his own chest came to rest upon the foundling’s brown robes. While open affection in front of those who were not Mandalorian was uncharacteristic, they loved their families:

He remained uncertain if she carried the knowledge to help the Child locate his own kind, but he must exhaust all his options. This is the way. While it may be a faux-pas to speak in such a blunt nature to one of such grand blood, his culture dictated his attempts at Galactic Basic.

He didn’t carry the capacity to consider rank outside of the clans and the Mand’alor. “I’m told from my sources you have the resources to find his people,” Dyn started, glancing at the floating pod at his side.

The foundling babbled at those standing opposite of his caretaker.  

“My loyalty is yours if that is the truth.” The Mando didn’t know what else he could offer beyond his skills in battle. 

THOSE STEADY, DANGEROUS eyes didn’t perturb Dyn. They belonged to him a decade ago. Hidden in a hatch by his parents before they became causalities during the Republic’s fall. He would not trust others if not for the Mando who became his savior. 

While he knew this interaction had the potential for dire consequences, he didn’t know a true Mandalorian who wouldn’t offer their fire and food. He placed a serving far enough so she could run if she desired. 

“There’s plenty to eat,” he called out before returning to the heat.   The Child mimicked his offering and placed a half-crunched frog next to the bowl of stew, but waddled towards the girl, instead of moving away.
