Either my foot had hit my laptop when I fell onto my bed or I had died and was about to ascend to heaven. Whatever one it was, hearing a choir come out of nowhere scared the shit out of me.
My body jolted, clutching at my chest as my tears began to dry on my face. I listened to the beautiful sounds that were coming from my computer, feeling their voices fill my chest. My eyes shutting.
That was quickly halted when Harry’s voice had kicked in, guitars following after. I laughed, “This is such a Harry song.” I thought.
I looked to the title, “Only Angel”, this couldn’t be what I thought it was.
It seemed too similar to be coincidence.
“What’s it about?” I pushed, wanting to know more about how I had inspired him. “I can’t imagine that it’s family friendly.” I replied to which he laughed.
“Actually the opposite.” he said, his eyes seeming as if they were glued to mine. I raised my eyebrows as he continued, “It’s about how you’re an angel.”
This couldn’t be the song he was talking about, he couldn’t actually have a song he wrote about me on this album after everything we had been through.
“Open up your eyes, shut your mouth, and see that I’m still the only one who’s been in love with me.”
That hurt. Out of everything I had heard so far, that was by far the worst.
How could he think that? How could he think that he’s never felt love besides from himself? How could he think that I never loved him? Obviously I was right and I hadn’t been the one for him.
“I’ll guess I’ll be getting you stuck in between my teeth, and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
The fuck did that mean? That he was just dealing with me? That he was just stuck being my boyfriend? Maybe this is the truth part of the album. Maybe this is where he realized he didn’t need me or miss me anymore, but it finally set in that I was holding him back. I knew this would happen.
I had waited five minutes now, I had gone five minutes listening to the pounding on my door. I hadn’t responded yet he continued.
“Brooklyn, I know you’re in there! Open your fucking door!” he screamed over the consistent knocking.
We had gone to a club, as we usually did, we had only been dating about a week now and it felt too good to be true. I knew I was falling for him and it terrified me, so I did what I do best. I ran from the situation completely.
We were dancing together, his hands on my waist and I drove myself into him. I couldn’t stop myself from trying to absorb him into me, I needed more of him. I needed him to be as close as possible, I needed to breathe his air.
I looked into his eyes, his eyelids drooping as he looked to me with the softest smile on his lips. I wanted to tell him right there that I loved him. That I craved him more than anything or anyone I’ve ever craved before, and it was that moment that shock set in and I fled from him.
I ran all the way back to my apartment, him hot behind me but with everyone outside he was frequently stopped which I used to my advantage.
I had hoped he had given up, that he realized that this wasn’t worth fighting for since we hadn’t been together long. I was proven wrong, however, when his fist began to hit at my door to the point where it sounded like he could punch through it.
“Brooklyn! Talk to me! Why’d you leave?” he yelled and I mentally cursed at myself, knowing that if my neighbors didn’t already hate me, they would after tonight.
I sat on my floor, my arms wrapped around my legs that were pushed against my chest. I didn’t know what was wrong with me. I was happy. I felt happy. The happiest I’ve been in a long time and I couldn’t handle it.
“Brooklyn.. FUCK!” I heard him groan. “Fucking, fuck, fuck, goddammit.” he screeched, his tone deeper as the pounding stopped.
My eyes shot to the door as he rambled off more curses, getting progressively louder with each one. I sprung to my feet and rushed to the door, swinging it open so hard I thought I had cracked the wall behind it.
Harry stood in the hallway with his back to me, his hands clutched in front of him. “What did you do?” I looked back to my door where tiny splatters of red now spread across it.
He head snapped to where I stood, his eyes wide as he turned to face me, quickly hiding his hands behind his back. “Why didn’t you answer?” he deflected, his eyebrows lowering.
“Let me see your hand.” my hand reached out to him but he backed away, shaking his head. “Not until you answer my question.” he spoke, stepping closer to me.
“Not until you show me your hand.” I crossed my arms over my chest, tilting my balance onto my left foot. My hips jutting towards him. He eyed my body before bringing his lip in between his teeth.
“No, you’re not getting out of this with your sex eyes.” I exclaimed, my index finger pointing at him. He took another step closer to me, “Have I told you how much I love your outfit?” he asked, his voice low and rough.
“Harry.” I warned, my eyes dropping from him. I knew if I continued to look I would be his.
His left hand wrapped around my hip, nearly engulfing it completely. “You look incredible.” he whispered, his nose brushing against my forehead. I let out a jagged breath, shaking my head. “Harry..” I started before he cut me off.
“Now. Now. It’s impolite to interrupt.” he spoke, his lips centimeters from my ear. I shuttered, feeling his grip on me tighten. “Such an inappropriate outfit. Nearly half naked.” he grinned as his teeth grazed my neck.
My body felt like it was on fire, we hadn’t been this close since the night we met. “Couldn’t take you home to my mother dressed like that.” he continued, his lips sweetly kissing just below my ear. “That’s why you like me though.” I sighed, my throat hoarse.
If it wasn’t for his hips against mine, I wouldn’t be able to stand. He was the only one to ever have this effect on me. “My bad little angel.” he continued, his other hand swinging from behind his back to pull me forward by my dress fabric. His lips colliding with mine harshly.
I could feel his teeth on my bottom lip as I opened my mouth for him, both of us inhaling deeply as he pushed his tongue into my mouth.
My eyes opened, “How did this happen?” I thought to myself. “We were just fighting a second ago.. I left him and locked him out.. I must look good in this outfit.. or it could be that we’re both pretty drunk.. but I’ll pretend it’s the outfit.” I rambled as he continued to kiss me. My brain too scattered, my eyes opened as I looked to take in my outfit.
My hands were pushing against his chest when I had caught sight of his hand. “What? What’s wrong?” he asked, bringing his attention to where my eyes were. His knuckles were busted open, small splinters adorning the cuts.
“Harry!” I gasped, my hands clutching his. I had to use both of mine to hold up just one of his. “What the fuck?!” I exclaimed, looking at it more carefully. He quickly pulled his hand from mine, “’m fine!” he slurred, leaning in again.
My hand grabbed his face, stopping him from leaning further. He pouted, a small huff coming from his squished lips. “Babe.” he moaned, “Gimme kiss.” he stomped as I brought my attention back to his hand.
He pushed forward, falling into me, my hands clutching the wall behind me for stability while his hands fell behind me on the wall near my shoulders. His body pressing into mine once more. “Harry, I need to fix your hand.” I groaned, not entirely angry with our current positions.
He dipped down, placing his hand against my bare thigh. “It could be broken.” I fought, fighting my mind from submitting to him.
“Does it feel broken?” he asked, his head in the crook of my head, peppering kisses against my collar bone.
He slowly raked his hand up my thigh, his nails softly scraping my skin as he reached my hip bone. The fabric of my dress resting against the top of his wrist, as my bottom half was practically exposed to anyone who wanted to walk by.
“Bet I could still do a lot of things with this hand.” he whispered, his fingers brushing softly over the band of my underwear. A whimper left my lips as I squirmed against his touch.
My dress fell down onto his hand as he let out a wince. The fabric brushing against his knuckles, “That’s it! Come on!” I said, my body rolling to my doorway that was only a few inches from where we were standing.
Harry fell against the wall, not expecting me to pull away from him so quickly. He then fell to the floor. “Baby.” he whined, giving up on trying to keep himself upright and laying on the floor between my apartment and the hallway.
“Get your ass in here.” I yelled, going into my bathroom to retrieve peroxide.
“My savior.” he mocked, crawling into my apartment. Probably too drunk to stand himself up again.
“Your angel!” I corrected, leaning my head back into my living room where he was inching himself up my couch. He let out a laugh, “My only angel.”
My head was spinning. There was no doubt in my mind that this song was about me.
Why had he kept it? He could’ve just deleted it, he could’ve just pretended that he never wrote the song, but he had finished it. He had recorded it, and he had put it on his album.
Maybe as a final goodbye.
I wouldn’t know unless I talked to him, which had become an increasingly good idea the more I drank.
“I talked to your brother.” he said nonchalantly.
“Don’t think now’s the best time to talk about him.” I laughed, looking down to my straddled position on his hips. His hands under his shirt I was wearing, to rest firmly against my back.
“You’re probably right, but I didn’t have time to talk previous to this.” Harry laughed, looking at me with a glare. Knowing that after the weekend we had with my parents I had practically jumped him as soon as we signed them off.
I rolled my eyes which earned a slap against my ass as he smiled and bit his lip. His hips jutting up as I lifted slightly from the pressure.
“What did you guys talk about, since we’re at the point of our relationship where we can talk about my relatives while I’m on top of you.” I joked, earning a groan back. “Fuck off.” he said as I nodded. “Okay.”
I lifted my leg from him to lay at his side but he quickly moved his hands to keep me in place on his waist.
“Well, after your parents talked about your troubled past.” he started, his fingers moving to twirl at the ends of my hair.
“I don’t think me being a drunk teenager counts as a ‘troubled past’.” I remarked, he placed a finger at my lips to shush me. I laughed, “Go on.” I mumbled, his finger still pressed against my mouth.
“He said not to let them scare me off, that you’ve really changed since you met me.” he explained, his finger moving to massage my cheek. “That you seem like an angel, he almost sound concerned.” he spoke, a laugh spilling from his lips.
I shrugged, “I try my best.”
“They don’t get to see your devilish side much.” he smirked, his hands falling back to grip at my waist under his shirt. I pushed my hips forward, “That’s only for you.” I flirted, to which his hissed.
“Teasing isn’t nice, kitten.” he warned, the look he gave me I had seen many times in the past couple months. The one that told me I was about to deal with some consequences, consequences that I was prepared to deal with without hesitation.
“All talk.” I cooed, my hips falling back against his harshly. His grip on my waist was sure to leave bruises but it was the best kind of pain. A giggle fell from my lips as he regained his composure.
He growled, flipping me onto my back as he hovered above me. “What was that, love?” he asked, before biting down on my neck. My body molded into his, lifting from the bed to meet him. “Nothing.” I lied, our eyes meeting as I bit my bottom lip.
“Sounded like ‘all talk’, but I might be mistaken because you’d never doubt me. Right?” his voice was enough to make my body burn, he sounded so in control. It was a turn on.
He kissed down my neck as I squirmed against him, still not prepared for another round after our last. “Sensitive?” he laughed, his hand trailing up my inner thigh. I jolted, nodding my head.
“Too bad.” he smirked before biting at my neck again.
Still confused, I brought the wine to my mouth.
“My only angel.” I laughed bitterly, “There’s no way that he isn’t trying to hurt me.” I said to myself, still not understanding why he needed to add this song to this album.
I tried to rationalize it since it started, the only option was passive aggressiveness. There was no way that he would keep a song about me on here without the intent of me hearing it and it upsetting me.
My only angel. HIS only angel.
This album came out months after we had split, I wasn’t his only angel. Not anymore.
I wish I was, but I wasn’t.
“How long has it been?” Lily asked, her body laying against our table. I had decided it was time for Harry to meet some of my friends, and what a better place than a bar to do that.
“A little over a week.” Harry answered, his lips kissing at my head. I was sat in his lap, holding both of our drinks as his arms wrapped tighter around my ribs.
“Surprised you’ve kept her that long.” Lily and I’s friend, Stephanie, sneered. She took a sip from her drink, her eyes never meeting any of ours.
My friendship with Stephanie was the type of friendship that was better in small doses. We almost always clashed if we spent more than an hour together. She was passive aggressive and never happy, she loved to make passing comments about how I lived my life.
She had wanted Harry the second he walked into the bar alone, practically called 'dibs’ as he began to walk towards the table. When she saw he was the one they were there to meet, the comments hadn’t stopped.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Lily asked before I could, she shrugged. “You know, she’s not the best with being committed.” she added, stirring her straw in her drink.
“No, I don’t know what you mean.” I hissed, Harry keeping his arms firmly around me. His lips kissing my bare shoulder, attempting to silently calm me.
“You just have a habit of leaving guys high and dry.” she said, and my face paled.
She wasn’t wrong, I wasn’t the best with breaking things off. Even if the relationship was horrible, as most of mine had been, I couldn’t have “the talk” with partners.
But that wasn’t her business to tell, Harry and I had only been together for a small while and I didn’t want anything to risk us being together. I would never do that to him.
“She’s not getting away from me that easily.” Harry chimed in, kissing at my shoulder once more.
“Yeah, good luck with that.” she finished off her drink.
“Who would be better for him? You?” I laughed bitterly, I hadn’t wanted Harry to see me like this this early in our relationship. She smiled, “Maybe.” she added as she winked to him. He audibly groaned which made me laugh.
I leaned forward on the table, “Over your dead body.” I spat, venom dripping from my every word.
She looked at me, shocked as Harry brought me back to his chest. A smile plastered across his face as he forced my head to face him, smashing his lips against mine.
Stephanie sighed, “Disgusting.”
“You need to get up and leave, right fucking now.” Lily spoke lowly, her tone pointed and angry.
“Now.” I turned back and added before she could protest. She huffed, standing up and grabbing her things before she headed towards the door. Turning back once more before staring directly at him, “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” she spoke before winking at him.
If it wasn’t for Harry I would’ve ripped her eyes out of her skull so she could never wink at him again. His arms pulled me into him using little to no force. She darted out before I could get my breathing to steady.
“Why do we hang out with her?” Lily joked, shaking her head as she looked to me with worried eyes.
“Because she’s your friend.” I added, taking a mouthful of my drink. Lily laughed, “I thought she was yours! I fucking hate her!”
“What part of our relationship indicated we were friends?!” I shouted, a smile returning to my face as I looked to her flabbergasted.
“I don’t know what you guys were talking about, she seemed nice.” Harry added, which caused us all to fill the room with laughter.
She had called it that night, that I would leave him high and dry. He was so confident that I wouldn’t and I had. If anything it only angered me more. I hated that she was right, that I had done exactly what she said that I would.
I wonder if he remembered that.
Of course he did, it was a line in the fucking song. I wondered how many nights he thought about that exact moment and how he probably should’ve just left that night. How he should’ve listened to her warning and avoided this all from happening.
The song came to an end and I felt more sorry for myself than I had before. I had no right to be upset, this was my fault. All of this could’ve been avoided if I hadn’t left.
But I did leave and now I had to deal with these feelings. These horrible, shitty feelings.
“But it was all for the fucking best.” I mocked myself, chugging the wine to erase any feelings I had.
“Bring it on, Harold.” I sloppily hissed, ready to hear what else he wanted to throw at me.
SORRY ITS TAKEN SO LONG BUT SEND ME FEEDBACK! xx
