Because This is My First Life

If I had to list all things about Because This Is My First Life and all it’s little low-key gender role swaps that I’d love, we’d be here forever. But indulge me while I talk about my absolute favourite: Se Hee’s 'ottoke’ moment.

Watching Because This Is My First Life has honestly been one of the greatest experiences in my life. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a show, at least a kdrama, as much as I did this one. It’s taught me so much about love, life and human nature. I don’t think I can accurately articulate everything that made this show so amazing but one of my favorite things was the authenticity of it all. The characters were so real and honest and flawed. All of that made them all the more perfect, somehow. I want to really take a moment to applaud the writing, which was so so sooo well done. It brought the plot and characters to life in such a way that I found myself sympathizing with people and story-lines that I didn’t even necessarily agree with. And the cast was ahhhmazing. Every single one of them did so well. I really appreciated what all the couples represented and the trajectory each took. Horang and Wonseok had a pretty turbulent relationship and I wasn’t always sold on it. But both of them showed so much growth by the end and I’m so proud of both of them. Suji and Sanggu I was also a little skeptical about but they turned out to be such a fantastic couple. Both so strong and intelligent, albeit in different ways. It made me so happy to see them bring out the best in each other and stand by each other. And Sehee and Jiho. Wow. Where do I start? They. Are. Perfection. The best in every way possible. Ironically, both of them are so flawed. But they both grew up so much during the show. Jiho finally became the striker she was always meant to be. Sehee learned to love, but even better, he let himself believe that he deserved to be loved. They caused so many positive changes in each other. and despite the bumps in the road, they had by far one of the healthiest, most respectful relationships I have ever seen. Everyone went through so much and seeing them all happy at the end just made me so happy that it doesn’t even make sense. This is bittersweet because I’m saying goodbye to something so good and characters that weirdly seem like old friends. But I’ve enjoyed this show so much that even that pain is worth it. Goodbye, Because This Is My First Life. You truly were the best.
