Many authors dream of reading their books themselves. But not everyone’s got the gift, or the stamina.  That’s why we need gifted people like you! 

Authors don’t usually hire their own narrators, though; that’s done by the companies that produce the audiobooks.  You’d send your audition tapes to them.

The one exception is Audible’s recent ACX initiative, which gives authors, narrators and producers a chance to find each other.  Their excellent website tells you how it all works.  It’s a great place for narrators to break into the business; I know a lot of people who got work that way.

Neil Gaiman was one of the first to take advantage of this - not with his own books, but by creating and curating the Neil Gaiman Presents line of audiobooks.  I was lucky enough to be included in that, and just finished recording all three of my own “Riverside” novels.  It was an amazing experience.
