he readily welcomed alex back and was very warm and gentle in his words with him when he could have been annoyed.

he obviously deeply appreciates and respects christine and how she runs things, enough to ask for her help in the interview.

that small moment where fareed corrected him was really sweet and shows that he respects his opinion and doesn't mind being corrected (and was very empathetic about his mother).

Because Gabriella left him in Spain because she didn't need to use him anymore. She's only back in his life now because she needs to use him again, and Lestat knows this. He's doing this for her.

And then here's Louis finally reaching out because he needs Lestat.

The difference being Louis genuinely needs him for him, whereas Gabriella is merely using him as a vessel for her own agenda.

That's why it was easy for Lestat to point out to Louis that he didn't reach out when Lestat was shot. That's why Louis could be honest with him about not having an actual reason for it other than selfishness. It's because both of them know they don't have to perform with each other, but they don't want to acknowledge that intimacy just yet.

Gabriella "needs" him? Lestat is there.

Louis needs him? Lestat is there.

It's a testament to Lestat's character and also to how much he loves Louis and how deeply he knows Louis more than Louis knows himself.
