There is something painful about having to turn your hardest days into words and then ask someone to care.
I never imagined I would be here, asking people I have never met to help my family. But after everything that happened, we are still trying to find a way forward, and sometimes that means admitting that we cannot do it alone.
We are tired. We are worried about what comes next. And honestly, there are days when hope feels very small.
But we are still here, still trying.
If you have the ability to give, please give whatever you can. If you can't, please share our story with someone who might be able to help.
For you it may be a small gesture. For us, it could be the reason we get through another difficult day. 🤍💔

tw: vent post(maybe?)
Paralleling myself with Chrysothemis the way I always defend my mom/comfort her through what she's going thru even though I've been told how she's a bad parent
I've gotten close to her, I've listen to her thoughts, I've helped her when nobody in our family seems to care. But she doesn't see me as her child, she insists and talks to me about me being the reincarnation of her dead older sister(I know its not exactly the same but I feel like Clytemnestra would start seeing Iphigenia in Chrysothemis after iphigenia dies)
I wear the "mask" of her dead older sister because I want her to be happy, because her sisters are the only thing that can put a smile on her face(nowadays atleast) I know I'll never become like her older sister but I just want a connection of closeness with one of my parents
Everything inside me is crying out from helplessness… I’m a terrified mother watching my daughter Farah suffer, while feeling powerless to protect her Farah cannot walk because of muscle paralysis, and as she grows, carrying her is becoming unbearable. She urgently needs a wheelchair. I’m afraid of the day my arms will no longer be strong enough to carry her 😭Please, kind souls, don’t forget me or Farah. This is the only account I have left, and I could lose it at any moment. Please don’t leave us alone. Help Farah now.🙏🤍Even $1 can help. Please donate or reblog so her story can reach someone who can save her🌹💔🥹

My baby has no milk or diapers tonight 💔
I’m a mother of four little girls, and tonight I’m desperately worried about my youngest. Her formula is finished, and we have no diapers left. I don’t have enough money to buy what she needs.
Please, if you can help with even a small amount, you could help me feed and care for my baby tonight. If you can’t donate, please share my message. Your kindness means more than I can say. 🙏❤️

🚨 URGENT: Please Don't Ignore My Story 💔
https://chuffed.org/project/179967-help-saja-and-her-family-of-7-survive-in-gaza-after-loss-and-displacement
I lost my father at a young age, and since then, I have carried responsibilities far beyond my years. 🥀 I do everything I can to stand on my own feet and provide even the most basic necessities for my family, but it feels like everyone is ignoring our suffering.
💔 My mother suffers from the effects of a stroke and a spinal disc condition. She needs continuous treatment and medication, but we cannot always afford them.
🥺 As for me, I have experienced severe weight loss because of the lack of food and the overwhelming stress we endure every single day.
😔 I live under unbearable pressure. I try to stay strong for my family, but I cannot do this alone. Every day without help makes our situation worse and makes it even harder to provide food and medicine.
🙏 If you are unable to donate, please don't ignore my story. Even sharing this post could help it reach someone who is able to support us.
🤍 Every donation, every share, and every kind heart gives my family hope to keep going. Thank you for standing with us. 🇵🇸

What, Where, and Why? - The Greek's Thoughts on Helen in Non-Homeric Versions
Previously I posted Sappho's Fragment 16 on Helen where the author believed in her agency in forsaking her family and home city for Paris as a form of, "you go girl."
A classic professor, Joel Christensen, posted an in-depth article about the various Greek's attitude toward Helen besides Sappho on his substack, but sadly removed it. So I figure I make my own messy compilation because people are annoying about Helen now. The backstory with Theseus was neither in Homer nor all accounts and Euripides wrote different characters of Helen, so that's why I'm doing this.
Alcman (c. 7th century BC)
Although fragmented and more about the Dioscuri, Alcman incorporated the myth of Helen's abduction by Theseus. What's striking about this is that it has the brothers alive at the time of the Trojan War. The scholalist offered an explanation for the Dioscuri's absence in the war is due to shame, a recurring theme in Helen's mythology.
Stesichorus (c. 630 – c. 555 BC)
Another lyric poet, Stesichorus followed Alcman's suit of linking the Theseus abduction and The Trojan War lore together for Helen. But this time, he is credited for proposed the revisionist myth where Helen at Troy was a phantom and that the real woman was at Egypt the whole time. Legend has it that after Stesichorus wrote a Palinode to Helen blaming her fir the war, the goddess Helen came to him, removed his sight as a punishment and only reversed when Stesichorus recanted his accusations and instead called Homer a liar, a tradition that later authors followed as we will explore later on.
Stesichorus also wrote about Iphigenia being Helen's and Theseus' daughter (Paus. 2.22.6).
Alceaus (c. 625/620 – c. 580 BC)
-P. Oxy. 1233 fr. 2 ii 1–16.
This one is pretty straight-forward. The lyric poet outright condemned Helen for indirectly causing Troy's destruction and Achilles' death because the Greeks and Trojans fought for her.
Herodotus (c. 484 – c. 425 BC)
As a historian, Herodotus wrote various things on Helen including her phantom myth and opinion on her role in the war.
In one version he recorded allegedly told by the Egyptian priests the same version Stesichorus told but with a twist: the Trojans never had her phantom.
He then say if the real Helen was at Troy, the Greeks and Trojans wouldn't risk their lives for a mere woman, which means Helen was indeed, as Marlowe puts it, "the face that launched a thousand ships."
-Herodotus, The Persian Wars, Bk 2
Gorgais (c. 483 – c. 375 BC)
It’s worth noting around this time period, the debate on Helen being at fault or not was a good practice for showcasing rhetoric skills. Many philosophers and writers including the playwrights engaged with this subject. In the treatise, Encomium of Helen, Gorgias demonstrated his oration on defending Helen. The Helen he wrote was the most beautiful demigoddess who inspired not just lust but also, "assembled many personalities of proud ambition, of whom some possessed opulent riches, others the fair fame of ancient ancestry; others the vigor of native strength, others the power of acquired wisdom; and all came because of amorous contention and ambitious pretention." (4).
It's pretty long so I won't quoted the whole thing which you can read here. He argued this interesting snippet:
This argument echoed a similar sentiment Sappho shared who believed Love to be the greatest and powerful force of nature that someone like Helen can't resisted despite having a great husband.
Euripides (c. 480 – c. 406 BC)
In his corpus of work, Euripides wrote both positive and negative different depictions of Helen that are not narrative connected with each other.
In the eponymous play, Euripides followed Stesichorus's Egyptian variant. The gods crafted a phantom of Helen to Paris while transporting her to Egypt. Helen is a chaste and faithful wife waiting for Menelaus for years while she is being pursued by Theoclymenos. She is distraught by the news of her family members, particularly her mother Leda who committed suicide out of shame for her daughter's suppose actions.
On the other hand elsewhere, Euripides painted Helen in the most callous and despicable portrayal. In The Trojan Women, Helen denied any fault she felt for the fall of Troy, the death of the soldiers, and the enslavement of the women. At one point she went on a monologue absolving her responsibility by pinning blame on Hecuba for failing to kill Paris, Menelaus for leaving her alone with Paris, and the goddesses for forcing her and Paris.
In the classic rhetorical battle, Hecuba rebuttal her reasons
Elsewhere, Orestes, Electra, and Iphigenia expressed their hatred toward Helen. In Electra, Clytemnestra compared Agamemnon's decision to kill Iphigenia to Helen's lust (1027), but Electra say her mother is like her sister as two peas in a pod - full of shame and vanity (1069-1075). At the end of Orestes, both Electra and her brother attempted to kill Helen before she was rescued:
In Iphigenia in Tauris, Iphigenia is bitter her life has to be sacrificed by her father for another woman the Greeks deemed to be more important.
Isocrates (c. 436–338 BC)
Like Gorgias, Isocrates wrote his own Encomium of Helen which is on Topostext you can read. He introduced by mentioning many students and professions including Gorgias who wrote their own encomium.
He started off that Helen's beauty surpassed all others than she first captivated Theseus that led to her abduction. Due to this incident and the subsequent events, Isocrates argued Helen's divine linage as well as her beauty is what physiologically attracted men to pursued her for marriage and fight for her including Paris' woman of choice. Basically if she indirectly led Theseus to earn kleos as a king, then she can inspired the same for many men. At the end, he argued beauty is one of the most powerful virtues.
I am astonished that anyone should think that Alexander was ill-advised in choosing to live with Helen, for whom many demigods were willing to die. Would he not have been a fool if, knowing that the deities themselves were contending for the prize of beauty, he had himself scorned beauty, and had failed to regard as the greatest of gifts that for the possession of which he saw even those goddesses most earnestly striving?
-48
With good reason in truth they came to this decision, and I, for my part, am justified in employing extravagant language in speaking of Helen; for beauty she possessed in the highest degree, and beauty is of all things the most venerated, the most precious, and the most divine. And it is easy to determine its power; for while many things which do not have any attributes of courage, wisdom, or justice will be seen to be more highly valued than any one of these attributes, yet of those things which lack beauty we shall find not one that is beloved; on the contrary, all are despised, except in so far as they possess in some degree this outward form, beauty, and it is for this reason that virtue is most highly esteemed, because it is the most beautiful of ways of living

Misc.
-Aeschylus, Agamemnon
He[Protesilaos] finds fault with the following verses of Homer. First, because, after intermingling gods and mortals, Homer spoke highly about mortals, but contemptibly and basely about the gods. Next, clearly knowing that Helen was in Egypt, since she along with Paris had been carried away by the winds, Homer kept her on the wall of Ilion so that she would see the sorry events on the plain. It is likely that, if these events had taken place because of any other woman, she would have covered her face and not looked while her people were attacked.
-Philostratus, Heroica, 693
-Ps-Hesioid Fragment
Sometimes I wonder if I’m the one doing the rage baiting.
anyways apparently I get rage baited easily? I’m confused, what is rage bait, I don’t get mad at people that are not myself
:3
I also do get ragebaited easily!! I think ragebait is just anything a person says/does that are intentional and easy to get mad at personally I think it's stupid

“In Attic Red-Figure we have Makron's cup in Boston on which Paris, now armed with helmet and spear, leads away by the wrist a downward-gazing Helen; Aineias, Aphrodite, and Peitho are also present while overhead hovers a small Eros (Boston 13.186). Another cup by the same painter in Berlin offers much the same general scene, but without the divine figures. Here instead Aineias seems to be fending off Timandra, Helen's sister, who hastens toward him imploringly while one Euopis informs Ikarios and Tyndareos of the event (Berlin: Ch F2291). Both cups do suggest a certain reluctance on the part of Helen, who must be led along by her would-be lover.”
- Early Greek Myth: A Guide to Literary and Artistic Sources, Vol. 2 by Timothy Gantz
Bottom piece, left to right: Paris, Helen, Aeneas, Timandra, Euopis, Icarius (uncle of Helen), Tyndareus, and 2 goats
"paris was so horrible to oenone! he deserved her leaving him to die!" oh but if I mentioned their age gap and how paris was most likely a minor during their relationship while oenone is decades older than him, or their power imbalance with the fact that he was a slave and she was a nymph and how she talks about her marrying a slave as if it was something that was below her, or that oenone was keeping that paris was a son of priam from him so he wouldn't leave her which also meant she was making sure her husband remained living as a slave when he had the chance at a better life just because that better life didn't involve her as his wife.
listen I love oenone and I love her relationship with paris but people need to realize their relationship is just not so simple that it can be dumbed down to sad wife evil husband, they both genuinely loved each other and they ended up hurting each other.
and obviously, this is not to say oenone didn't have any right to hate paris if she did, he still left her, got himself a different wife and killed their child together and then had the audacity to come to her crawling for help, but again, if she did, since oenone doesn't hate paris either since after she left him to die she grieved him and felt so guilty that she killed herself.
paris was justified for leaving oenone and oenone was justified for resenting him for it.
I don't know I think people's perception of them would be so much more different if you guys firstly stopped letting your hatred for paris blind you and secondly read ovid's oenone to paris.
⛔ I’m scared that one day, my arms simply won’t be strong enough to carry my daughter💔🥹
She cannot walk independently because of her muscle paralysis, and she is getting heavier as she grows. I’m in pain, but I keep carrying her because I have no other choice.
She needs a wheelchair. Please help me give my daughter the freedom to move—and give me the strength to keep caring for her🙏🏻🤍Even $1 can make a difference. 🙏

I don't think you guys should be using Briseis in your Patrochilles posting, no Briseis should not be turned into some fujoshi Patrochilles shipper or some evil girl who gets in between the yaoi, I think people should just leave her alone, there is no reason to involve her in Patrochilles posting especially considering she suffers because of both men, with Achilles being her abuser and rapist while Patroclus feeds her empty promises of marrying her to a man who would be dead before that could even happen and enables the man and system keeping her captive and suffering, I don't care if it's a "joke" cause it's definitely not a funny joke.
