I don’t think we talk about this scene hardly at all.
We see Buzz getting knocked out and resets back to normal (and he cracks a joke as he wakes up to everyone staring at him 😂).
HOWEVER, look at how devastated Jessie is and then how unbelievably happy she is when he comes back. She probably thought she lost him. For me, this scene is amazingly angsty when it comes to Jessie. Her face, her cries, etc.
And that is my TEDTalk for today 😆
I love these guys so much
Good evening everybody. You'll never believe what happened to me last week. As you can clearly see, I went to see Toy Story 5 with my family. After getting myself some cheetos popcorn (always wanted to try it btw)f, gummies, and a slushy; I settled in and witnessed one of the finest additions to the Toy Story saga since the third one. Ngl, I had my doubts on whether or not this was going to be a cringe cash grab. But man alive, never have I been so happy to be proven wrong.
I think this movie was justified on making Jessie its main character. She's been a staple of this franchise since the sequel and it's nice that she finally got to have her time in the spotlight. In truth, this movie was one big ass love letter to Jessie as a whole. It celebrated her flaws, her insecurities, and the relationships she has with the greater main cast. In all honesty, the kids on iPads thing has always made me cringe. But everything was firing on all cylinders. It managed to recapture that magic that made the franchise so endearing after so many years.
But the second MVP of this movie definitely goes to Lilypad: the movie's initial antagonist. She has the best arc alongside Jessie. She starts off as an ass; snidely, pompous, assertive, and then some. But after seeing Bonnie in tears, Lilypad can't help but feel remorseful over her actions. It just goes to show that even tech has a heart every now and then. After a quick pep talk from Jessie, Lilypad transforms from a despicable character into one you can't help but root for.
The Buzz army truly had me hooked. This was a great B-plot. The scene where the army was petting the deer, rabbit, and getting in touch with nature was one big homage to Bambi: Disney's fourth Golden Age film. It even featured a Frank Churchill song to signify it. Plus, the Buzz army metamorphizing into drones was pure creative genius and even paid tribute to the iconic scene from Toy Story 1's climax.
My absolute favorite part is when Buzz tries to confess his feelings to Jessie and she just straight up kisses him!! I was like, "oh Hell yeah!" shippers have been praying this would happen for 27 years now and our collective wish finally came true. What makes it even better is that they officially married via Bonnie and Blaze's playtime using Bonnie's mom's wedding ring and it was so freaking cute! Plus, Lilypad crushing on the "ringbearer" a.k.a the Roomba was so humorous to me. It's these little moments that made the movie so endearing.
Oh and let's not forget the very heart of the movie: Jessie's bond with Emily. Her returning to Emily's house after all this time totally surprised me. Back in the sequel, we only got glimpses into Emily's character. Not really enough info to go off of. But here, they really dive into Emily and Jessie's relationship. What made me tear up was Jessie discovering that Emily named her daughter after her favorite toy. If that didn't reaffirm her sense of self-worth, I don't know what will. This was, no doubt, Andrew Stanton and his team of writers' way of saying, "Hey, we hear you and we do care."
All in all, I'd give this movie a near perfect score! If you're an actual Toy Story fan like I am, I highly recommend you check out this movie. You will not be disappointed.
Once Upon a Lamp - Toy Story (Toys)
Voices: Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz), Joan Cusack (Jessie), Wallace Shawn (Rex), Annie Potts (Bo Peep)
Archive voices: Mary Kay Bergman (Jessie’s yodeling voice), Don Rickles (Mr. Potato Head), Estelle Harris (Mrs. Potato Head), Ned Beatty (Lotso), Emily Davis (Billy, Goat, and Gruff)
In place of Mickey and his friends.
Notes
When the Aliens sing the final note, their mouths move similar to when they say, “Ooh.”
Duke does a stunt on his bike as the song finishes. At the same time, Benson smiles and waggles his eyebrows.
Canon-based headcanon: Buzz Lightyear (the character since the cartoon/movie and then the toy as consequence) has a type: readhead girls
Cuz there's no way. Every single character this man was ever attracted by was a ginger. Space Ranger Buzz probably has this type and then all other Buzz toys also do, since we know that personality traits don't go away after the characters aknowledge that they're toys. Probably types also don't.
Toy Story Buzz - Jessie
Toy Story 3 demo Buzz - Jessie (his memory was erased)
Toy Story 3 spanish Buzz - Jessie (his memory was erased again)
Small fry Buzz (literally other toy) - Jessie
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command - Ozma Furbanna
Toy Story Buzz FROM THE COMMERCIAL - EVEN THE ARIEL ANIMATRONIC????
We don't have any readheads in the Lightyear movie because the writers didn't wanted him to have a love interest lmao (it's a joke, i don't actually know why)
