An entire spectra of colors can occur, but the greens and reds are far more common than the blues and purples. The only occurrence of gem quality ammolite in the world is mined near Lethbridge , Alberta, Canada. Ammolite became gemstone status in 1981 and is the official gemstone of the province of Alberta in Canada.
