Not an exact translation of NHK’s captions, but I think it captures the meaning.  When the official NHK twitter urged us to watch till the last second for an important message, quite a number of fans thought there would be some announcement regarding Kouhaku (NHK was probably trolling us). But this short montage was far better than that.

Everyone wants to be needed by someone.  But.. it doesn’t go well.  Gradually giving up on various emotions…  Laughing it off when you want to cry… That’s how I might be living.
