The sixth issue of Red Bean Press, a zine focused on highlighting the writing community on Tumblr, is out! This month we wanted to emphasize the central role that food and recipes have in our lives.

camp haunted hive — day two ; knives

‘Sometimes–’ he starts. ‘– I used to think of walking in,’ he doesn’t look at her, eyes vacant as they scan the other side of the lake, dark in the distance, tree line ragged, all liquid shadows, begging them to come closer. ‘Just–’ he makes a vague gesture at the water, tide calm. ‘–walk in, see what happens next.’

‘You drown,’ Wynona says hoarsely.

‘Maybe,’ he nods. Voice light, echoing like a mausoleum.

She grips his hand tightly, as if to stop him from walking in, if he were to right now. She doesn’t doubt he would, he seems like he would.

#thewriteblrhive’s haunted hive event prompt 01: bloodpact

My first entry for Spooktober! I’ll be writing an anthology based around a small [fictional] town in the midwest, and it follows the bizarre occurrences of Pompeys Mills. You can read the rest here. The transcript is under the cut! 

camp haunted hive — day one ; blood pact

The hike up to Gabriel’s Horn is a long one, seemingly gets longer each time Noble makes it. Woods lush around them, ground simmering with summer heat. Sneakers slipping as they trek up the rocky path, they count their steps, murmuring the numbers under their breath. It’s another hour until sundown, behind them St. Clemens bathes in the warmth of a low summer sun. Picturesque, but only from a safe distance.
