Here once again to tell you how much power your story has over my life and that this year, my assigned secret santa gifted me one of those infamous Taylor friendship bracelets with "Dancing With Our Hands Tied".
Just because of NN.
Mind you, this secret santa group is with my irls from uni and has NOTHING TO DO with fandoms or tumblr at all, I just talked their ears off with my obsession for your fic that they decided to gift me that.
Also, I cried once I managed to put it on cause I miss them so much. And now I'm wearing them daily (weird wording, but whatever).
Byee!
You're so sweet! This was a wonderful message to find this afternoon while doom scrolling. Your love for this fic is often what motivates me to revisit it from time to time, along with several others I won't name for fear of leaving someone out.
Now, it's my turn to confess that I've kept a secret... I have returned to NN once more. I planned to keep it to myself because--and let's be real--I've made such statements before that ultimately led to nothing. Which always makes me feel like a cruel tease.
But how do I respond to a message like this and not say anything? The burnout appears to have left me, at least, for now, and I'm writing so much recently that between my office-girl job and fic and school--yes, I decided to return to school in my thirties--that my hands ache when I wake up in the mornings. That feels like such an old lady thing to say.
33,000 words later... It's been two weeks, and I have 18.5k of new material for NN. (The rest of that total is a rewrite of TTTB because I reread it and absolutely hate the voice and decided I can do better.)
It's manic work, done with little finesse or consideration for continuity or, more importantly, editing, but it's happening. Unfortunately, I've promised myself to wait to publish anything until I finish it, but the likelihood is that the inspiration will run dry and I'll hit a wall and switch gears to Editing Mode, cry over the "first draft energy," and then fix all of the finesse and continuity issues mentioned above.

Hi! I was wondering if youâll ever return to writing Noisy Neighbors au again? It was and is my favorite ever ever ever i love your writing so much.
I have a funny story for you.
I've spent the majority of May looking for -- and unable to find -- the most current draft of the remainder of NN. It's been absolutely brutal to think I lost some scenes that I would NEVER get back. We're talking about a completed draft of a 10k chapter...
Turns out some bitch saved that file "Final Final NN" in a different folder than usual for safekeeping. And promptly forgot.
It's me. I'm some bitch. And I shouldn't keep multiple drafts of files, but đ¤ˇđťââď¸
So my update is that I haven't stopped writing. I've just stopped updating NN for you all. We're close to the end. Close enough that I want to be able to go back and make changes should I find myself in a corner.
Chapters 87 through 89 are sketched out, if not finished. Chapter 90 is proving to be quite the battle to get through, so I decided not to, lol. I know what happens well enough to write other scenes, and now my brain is jumping here and there to write fun bits and chase dopamine. Future Jess will have to link everything together.
I don't know how many chapters or words or whatever is left, but I do know what the remainder of the story is. And that is the hardest part, in my opinion.
As of now, I am sticking to my decision to not post until the story is complete. But then you can have biweekly updates until we run out and cry about it.
Hi! Hope you are doing well. Popping into your inbox to share this TikTok (from the official Bon Jovi account) where he set part of his drum set on fire before playing. It immediately made me think of NN. Aelin and Lorcan would love the spectacle of it.
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8pxrAhE/
It's rock n' roll, baby! --Aelin and Lorcan trying to justify setting the fire alarms off to Rowan.
heyyy i just popped by to say that we were talking about any piece of literary content that made us feel any and all emotions during class, and i had to bring up NN and how the story has KILLED ME AND BROUGHT ME BACK TO LIFE OVER AND OVER AGAIN. i just completed a reread of everything till now, and i wanted to say thank you so much for giving us NN. thank you for putting in the time and effort to give us a story that made so many of us feel that many emotions. thank you for giving us a piece of your heart.
Hey, so this ask needed a warning... Because it made me want to cry like a little bitch. Kidding, anon. (Mostly.)
Honestly, though, the idea that anyone talks about my little fic(s) in the wild feels ridiculous and totally unreal. I'm not fishing for compliments, I swear. It's just that I remember writing my first fic in 2019, I think -- Bloody hell, where has the time gone? -- and expecting exactly 0 people to read it. I hadn't even read TOG yet. Just the ACOTAR trilogy.
The fact that NN was inspired by a literal dream. Crazy talk. I wrote the first chapter at, like, 4 AM and went to work on no sleep.
Thank you all for reading. I miss our post-update inbox theories and conversations. I haven't given up on writing (cough, finishing) my stories. I've just been so busy that I've reverted back to my Tumblr Ghost status.
I'm two papers away from finishing my MBA. I like to think that'll free up brain space for fun writing, again. Between corporate-work-writing and school-writing, my brain is basically mush. Spare time has been dedicated to activities with minimal brain requirements.

the question of fic comments is very straightforward actually. readers do not owe writers comments. writers do not owe readers fic. there is no bargain, no transaction, no debt.
fic is a gift. comments are a gift. gifts are exchanged between friends, out of love, not out of obligation.
I write for myself. I post it for others, as a gift, because their joy brings me joy. I read for myself. I comment for the author, as a gift, because their joy brings me joy. perhaps we were not friends before, but we are now, however fleetingly, because we have given each other gifts out of love.

Flaws and Quirks in Male Characters That Iâm BEGGING Writers to Explore
⧠Dudes who are bad at sports. Yes, Chad, not every male character needs to throw a perfect spiral in high school. Let him get hit in the face with a dodgeball. Let him (please) suck.
⧠The âpretty boyâ who's not vain, just vibing. Like he knows he looks like he walked out of a Renaissance painting but has the self-esteem of a lost ferret.
⧠Shy, awkward boys who donât magically become suave by Chapter 6. No, heâs still weird at parties and says âyou tooâ when the waiter says âenjoy your meal.â
⧠Flirtatious guys who are actually super respectful. He's flirty but not a walking lawsuit. Shocker. Heâs playful, not predatory.
⧠Male friendships that aren't emotionally constipated. Yes, two guys can say âI love you, broâ and not immediately punch each other to cancel it out.
⧠The soft-spoken leader. He doesnât need to scream orders or have a âgruff, commanding voice.â He just talks, and people shut up and listen because heâs competent.
⧠Dudes with weird hobbies. like, your guy MC collect antique spoons or have a YouTube channel rating old vacuums. Why not. Itâs his passion.
⧠Guys who are clingy and insecure in relationships. Not abusive, just genuinely terrified of being left on read for too long. He's trying his best, ok?
Alright! Sorry for being so absent today! I was building a tool so you can all check your own names on demand.
I am asking that you not talk about it on Hugging Face. I'm sure word will get there eventually, but I'd like to avoid them accessing this as much as possible. Feel absolutely free to spread around Tumblr.
AO3 search tool is here! Use page 1 to search scraped fics by username. Use page 2 to search by work ID (which you'll need to do if you're looking for an anonymous work).
Or you can use this version, which is strongly recommended if you've published more than about 20 fics on the username you're searching.
If you're unsure which to use:
The first link is better if your entire username is a common word. For example, if you're username is just "bread" then you probably can't search yourself in the second link. The first version is way slower, so I recommend trying the second link first and using the first link as a backup option if the second fails.
The first link contains a page to search by work ID. This is good if you have an anonymous or orphaned fic, since that's not going to appear by searching your username.
The second link is better if you have a LOT of fics. It will give you a count of fics so you don't have to add them up. It will show the top 2,000 work results found.
If you have more than 2,000 published works, first off, I am jealous of your motivation. But second, that won't display right on the public version of the tools. You can send an ask or DM to have me do a custom search for you if you have more than 2,000 total works under 1 username.
You can also ask or DM if your entire username is a common word, because you're likely to get drowned out of the search results in that case. Try the tool first, but if it returns a lot of author results for your search, and YOUR name isn't in the results, ask me! There's a decent chance you're in there, but one of the tool's weak points is searching extremely common words.
In case this post breaches containment: this is a tool that only has access to the work IDs, titles, author names, chapter counts, and hit counts of the scraped fics for this most recent scrape discovered in April 2025. There is no other work data in this tool. This never had the content of your works loaded to it, only info to help you check if your works were scraped. If you need additional metadata, I can search my offline copy for you if you share a work ID number and tell me what data you're looking for. I will never search the full work text for anyone, but I can check things like word counts and tags.
Please come yell if the tool stops working, and I'll fix as fast as I can. Version 1 is slow as hell, but it does load eventually. Give it up to 10 minutes, and if it seems down after that, please alert me via ask! Anons are on if you're shy. Version 2 typically loads results within 1 minute and handles most users well.
On mobile, enable screen rotation and turn your phone sideways. It's a litttttle easier to use like that. It works better if you can use desktop.
Some FAQs below the cut:
"What do I need to do now?": At this time, the main place where this dataset was shared is disabled. As far as I'm aware, you don't need to do anything, but I'll update if I hear otherwise. If you're worried about getting scraped again, locking your fics to users only is NOT a guarantee, but it's a little extra protection. There are methods that can protect you more, but those will come at a cost of hiding your works from more potential readers as well.
"I don't want to know!": This tool is 100% optional. If you don't want to know, simply don't click the link. You are totally welcome to block me if it makes you feel more comfortable.
"Can I see the exact content they scraped?": Nope, not through me. I don't have the time to vet every single person to make sure they are who they say they are, and I don't want to risk giving a scraped copy of your fic to anyone else. If you really want to see this, you can find the info out there still and look it up yourself, but I can't be the one to do it for you.
"Are locked fics safe?": Not safe, but so far, it appears that locked fics were scraped less often than public fics. The only fics I haven't seen scraped as of right now are fics in unrevealed collections, which even logged-in users can't view without permission from the owner.
"My work wasn't a fic. It was an image/video/podfic.": You're safe! All the scrape got was stuff like the tags you used and your title and author name. The work content itself is a blank gap.
"It's slow.": Unfortunately, a 13 million row data dashboard is always going to be on the slow side. I think I've done everything I can to speed it up, but it may still take up to 10 minutes to load. It's faster if you can use desktop, but it should work on your phone too.
"My fic isn't there.": If it was published after March 15th, 2025, that was likely after all of the scraping took place. Otherwise, from what I can tell so far, the scraper's code just... wasn't very good, so most likely, your fic was missed by random chance. I am continuing to look for methods to reduce the chances of a work getting scraped anyway, and I will share on this blog if/when I find something that works.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the cost to host the tool! I appreciate you so so so much. As of this edit, I've received more donations than what I paid to make this tool so you do NOT need to keep sending money. (But I super appreciate everyone who did help fund this! I just wanna make sure we all know it's all paid for now.)
(Made some quick edits to the post on 04-May-2025 to update information a bit!)
hi, I'm rereading NN after actual years of last reading it and I fell in love with it all over again. I'm not entirely up on the lore surrounding when you'll update again/if you're planning on doing so but I just want to let you know that there are so many people out there who want more of it!! and I can only speak for myself, but I'm definitely prepared to wait however long it takes to get more of it because it's just so beautiful and heartbreaking and sweet and it's truly The Fanfic of the ToG fandom (maybe even of all of the fandoms tbh). okay rant over
Thank you so much. đ
I have every intention of finishing the fic. I've been writing in between work and school and gardening out my feelings, haha. So far, I've written the next three(ish) chapters--a total of 21,000 words.
The next chapter has been a real challenge. It's a pivotal plot point (spoiler?), and I'm struggling to get it just right. I've been switching back and forth between this scene and some of the "end scenes."
I decided not to post any of the material until I finish the draft in whole. I don't want to write myself into any (more) corners by posting something too soon.
That said, there's still quite a journey to complete with Aelin before we call it a wrap on NN. Plenty of loose ends and fan service, lol.

Im on my 3rd reread of NN and honestly I canât stop thinking about a bonus chapter from lyriaâs parents pov. We all know they donât like Aelin but we also know damn well that when they watch Thea that Thea will talk about her nonstop.
This is an interesting idea. However, getting inside their heads sounds like the worst experience. Haha, I'll probably stick to our two fav idiots.
I just want you to know, occasionally checking in on NN is the only reason I still have tumblr. Love you đ
My writing is my only reason for Tumblr, too.
Occasionally, I log on long enough to check on the old friends. Then, sadly, I see a post or two from the ship war and sign out. I miss my Tumblr dash from five years ago. đ
