there's an uncomfortable and (hopefully deliberate) racial undertone to marius's keeping of akasha re the way he was to get her back onto the slab presumably against her will etc. He feels like the benevolent imperialist nicking artifacts from one of the cradles of civilisation so that they can be looked after by a responsible party i.e a white westerner, only in this case the artifact is a living being
