Sorry for my late response. Probably too late for any insight, but I have been off my tumblr for a while. But in case anyone else reads this, and finds it helpful, I would like to answer. The surgery is major. It is really serious. I was lucky enough to have the surgery in Japan where they keep you in the hospital longer. I can't imagine being sent home after a few days or a week even. To recover took months and even then I still had some side effects after a year. I don't want to deter or scare anyone from doing this, but I also want to be honest. It's very hard on your body. I worked out, ate clean and still had a hard time. But thinking about the alternative which was my mom being dead, I couldn't say no. If there was something I could do to help extend her life, then I wanted to try. Especially because she only had a few more months to live. It's been 10 years now and she is still alive and healthy. I am also doing well, so it was totally worth it to have her for all this time. She got to live an additional 10 years plus. It allowed us to deepen our relationship. So I think the choice is hard but ultimately, you have to think about your relationship to the person you are donating to, and about yourself, your body, your health. I highly recommend anyone going through this to go into psychotherapy to work it out with a licensed therapist. I hope this helps.
