Review:
"This book is about a state of mind of feeling alienated and out of place in the city I grew up in.
With the changing face and the mindset of Istanbul. I started asking myself where is home? The places I used to go visit or the way of living has changed drastically in the recent years. As a result of this change , I observe on myself and other people pessimism and not knowing what the future holds for us. "
Today we will see a very nice book, "Au Revoir Istanbul", it's a book by Ekin Kucuk, Ā the pre press was made by Erdem Varol and the graphic design by Sennur Onan.
First let's see some technical aspects of this book, softcover, a run of 250 copies, and self-published. What I have to say, I love the object itself, the open spine, with an outside cover, the paper of the cover is really nice, I like very much of his texture, about the inside paper, it's also nice, but I rather prefer a different one for this images, but the overall is very good. The design is also nice, the full spreads work really nice on this kind of work. So it's a plus.
About the story of this book, Ekin, walks for the street that she knows quite well, and we can see that on this images, they are not images from an outsider, we can see the relation between the artist and the subject quite well. When we see this book, we can understand all the questions of the photographer regarding what is happen arround her, with this city, with society; the images are deep, dark, and some them can talk to the viewers, making you wonder about several kind of questions, and I really like that on photography.
The only thing I miss here is more frontal images of people, to understand better this reality, but besides that, I think is a really good project, and a very nice book.
