I felt like the armor wasn’t really doing anything, even though the only reason I started this project was to do some armor :p I guess I’ll have to go full knight on the next project.

Another character I’ve been working for the past few weeks. This time I used Marvelous Designer for the clothes and as much as it pains me to say this MD is just miles ahead of Blender when it comes to clothing simulation. I was sure my computer was just bad from how long it takes to sim in Blender, but MD just does it like it is nothing.
Anyway I still need to pose the character and do some environment, not sure where I’m going with either yet, but we’ll see
I used a sewing pattern for the top and blender’s sewing feature, if it didn’t take so long to bake cloth physics I would use this for every piece of clothing. Its so easy to get good looking results.

Kinda final version, there’s more I could do but I want to work on something else. Still, I think it came out looking good!

So the last pictures of this character I posted had a few muscles in the wrong places, so I redid the sculpting paying extra attention to the references. I think this is closer to being anatomically correct :p
I’m usually afraid of 3D sculpting since I learned poly modelling and I could never draw that well, but I’m actually satisfied with this. I think I got better as I started painting models on Substance Painter and the skill is transferable apparently..?
The real test is going to be sculpting the face, but I’m feeling a bit more confident now :3

Still trying to come up with customization options. I really like how these clothes turned out but somehow I still feel like something is missing with the character.
I think this is the first time I’m actually animating everything for a character and tbh it really shows. I’m struggling a bit with getting everything fluid and natural and having so little experience with this I have no idea how to do better. If anyone has any advice please send it my way :)

I started animating this little guy, but the geometry wasn’t really good so I got weird deformations all around. I went ahead with a few animations, like idle and running and cleaned up the geometry. Since Substance Painter doesn’t really like when you change the base model I had to recreate all the textures, but it’s cool cause I hadn’t put too much effort before.
Anyways, this is the new base for all the clothes I’m creating for the alpha version. Splatoon clothes were a big inspiration, and seeing that they used geometry for the shoelaces helped a lot. It’s a game about running goblins, I think I can use a few extra vertices for their shoes :p

Turns out “some adjusts” meant redoing his entire hand 😅 but now I think I’m pretty close to done. His armature turned out well too, the animation is a test one from Mixamo.

Working on this character has been a lot of fun, I think it improved a lot compared to the last time, but I can still see a lot of places I can do better.
I have high hopes for this project and I think I’m on the right track with this character.
