man, that’s terrible” he said as she mentioned that they’d been some of her favourites and she’d had to get rid of them. “If there was one thing my grams taught me it was that, though I sometimes think I’m not so much a gentleman as just conveniently able to reach high places.”

“As somebody who has been a victim of the soaking wet shoes I am glad to hear you got something out of it. Sadly I wasn’t so lucky when it happened to me so I was stuck with wet shoes the rest of the day.”

“Well, I am glad to see you survived” he gave a smile. Stopping when he noticed an elderly woman staring defeated at something on the top shelf. He excused himself for a moment, going over to speak to the woman and get the item off for her. “where were we? oh yes, wet shoes” he said upon his return, “did you have to keep them after or did you get a new pair after the day was over?” 

Martha’s smile faltered. “Todd,” she said gently, keeping her hand on his arm as she stepped closer to him. “Please don’t ever use your abilities on my witch. I’m sorry, but if you do, I will be forced to cut all ties from you and dissolve our friendship forever.” She looked up at him with incredible solemness.

Todd blinked a little as he looked down at her, “right” he swallowed, “I mean witches before bitches” he gave a sort of chuckle, “i feel like that should be the familiar motto. maybe put it on a seal or something.”

“Oh! I didn’t even think about that, but I should, shouldn’t I?” Martha grinned. “You’re such a wealth of good ideas, my dear Chambers.” She reached out to place a hand on his arm briefly. “Oh, I believe so. She’s an old soul, so it sometimes feels like she’s been here for ages.”

“You could even say it’s to hit up some outside witcheries and hex shops. London’s a big place, I’m sure there’s plenty of ones to check out.” Of course he wasn’t sure why her witch wouldn’t just want to go on a weekend vacation or something like that in the first place. “and if it really comes down to it I could always work the ol’ Chambers charm on her for you.”

“I don’t believe in stealing. If they’re happy with Elijah and he’s the leader they want then I won’t break that up. Coven’s are suppose to be like families. It’s why so many of them have large family groups.” She tapped her fingers against her glass. “I didn’t say I was terrible, I said I was ill-equipped. I mean that I’ve never had to teach a psychic before and the ones i’ve met have been in desperate need of guidance. Elijah is not only a witch but a psychic too. I don’t have experience there. So while I would happily take on psychics I can’t offer any help with their abilities.”

He took a drink, making a sort of hmm sound before setting it back down. “So what it seems like is you need an experienced psychic. Someone who’s been doing this longer than some witches have been able to display their magic.”

“Oh dear now that sounds like it wasn’t fun at the time. But if it had been one of those warm days, then maybe it would have been quite the convenient way to cool off.”She said letting a gentle laugh escape from her lips.

“It was more wet than anything” Todd chuckled, “It could have been worse, and I did get some new shoes out of it. I was not about to walk around all day squishing every time I took a step”

“Well that’s the thing. The only witches i’ve run into are attached to the Wildemount coven or chaotic in the wrong type of way/ There was one girl but I believe she left town. I’ve run into far too many psychics all of which I’m completely ill equipped to help.” She shrugged and took a sip of her drink.

“and I’m guessing you’re not looking to pull some of those attached over to your side?” It was very different from politics where you were constantly trying to get your opponent’s constituents to your side. “I’m sure you’re not doing completely terrible with the psychics.” he said with a shrug, “have you asked any of them to join or are psychics really not the vibe you’re going for with your coven?”

“You know what, I think that I will keep that in mind, I think that I do deserve to pay my home country a visit.” She said mentally going over things that she would have to do before she went there. “Oh well that’s good news. Ah Paris, I sure hope that was fun to visit too.”

“It was. I did manage to fall into a fountain one of the days.” Todd chuckled a little. It was definitely one of those incidents that was funnier in retrospect. 

“No… I don’t have a coven. I want one though. I’ve been trying to build my own but I’m not exactly easy to get along with and I don’t seem to find any witches that want a coven.” She shrugged. It had been months and all she had done was drive people towards Elijah rather than build anything herself. She was starting to feel like a failure.

“Who knows maybe they’ll change their minds or you just haven’t found the right witches yet” he offered. “what’s the pitch you usually give people?”

“I’ll never get tired of London,” Martha said, shaking her head. “But I found my witch. She’s here in Wildemount, so of course I have to stay. She is soooo lovely. I can tell we’re kindred spirits. We’re going to be an amazing witch and familiar pair.”

“Really?” his eyes widened as he smiled at the news, “wow, that’s great. You should talk to her about a trip to London sometime. Is she from here?”
