the idea that the british empire accepted their decline with grace and peacefully and willingly withdrew from all their colonial territories and took their loss quietly is commonly expressed as fact but it's very much untrue, it's a successful propaganda campaign for them to claim that this is what happened but they were busy committing war crimes throughout their colonial territories long after supposed "independence" & they continued/continue to maintain economic control over these regions and actively killed local movements that wanted economic sovereignty, land reform, nationalization of natural resources much like the united states did/does within their sphere of influence. i say this not to minimize the atrocities the us has committed but to make a point that the uk is also guilty of these crimes up to the present as much as they'd like to pretend this was an era that ended a century ago. british colonial violence isn't something that ended after ww2 it continued throughout the 20th century and still to this day if you look at the actions undertaken by the british military and their mercenaries throughout the former empire
for the past handful of years ive seen people say stuff like "well the british empire accepted their decline with grace and pulled out when they saw the ship sinking so why can't the us do that" and it's important that you understand that the british empire didn't actually do that and neither will their son lol
Always wanted to make one of these
i think its very funny how different daemons carry their masters

I was worried when he didn't rush out to greet me immediately but it was just because he was cozy.

Erika: Yaaaasss Dlanor - step on me! STEP ON ME!
it's just so special to me when like a character is a massive loser and yet they get someone who falls head over heels for them. like yeah boy pull some bitches with your weak-ass game and cringefail demeanor
characters who are deeply flawed and insufferable and written in a way that’s so unlikeable they become likeable, I love you. my poor little comedic traumatised meow meow who’s also a piece of shit.

I really hope this isn’t stereotypical or something (joke) but chopsticks are really fucking versatile it’s like two fingers if you get used to it. I’m eating chips with chopsticks eating pizza with chopsticks eating burgers with chopsticks (this one’s kinda on me I like my burgers dismembered. Sorry)
Talk of chopsticks and "dismembered burgers" followed by Erika Furudo from someone with an Ange icon. The LAYERS, man!
About last post, I feel like it's too convenient to throw Erika down the cliff. If you limit yourself to that, you read Umineko as intended by Ryukishi and you don't question his overall narrative.
OK, to get to my point: take Evatrice. She wants everyone to give up and die. She the obvious antagonist of EP3. So in this episode, Beato seems worthy of pity in comparison. It makes her endearing and allows the narrative that she can reform (a lot of us fell for that let's be honest XD)
Now apply this to Erika. If she's design to redirect all the hate to her, which characters does she make easier to empathize? Who does she make more human in comparison?
(This is a genuine question, I haven't thought everything through)
Counterargument: Erika was made for being thrown down the cliff. She would want to be thrown down the cliff. She'd ask for it, even!
As to who she makes easier to sympathize with, it's both Battler and Ange. She's brought into Lambda's game to pick up the slack for Battler since he refuses to play the detective role if he can't play against Beato, and after we'd just seen Battler at his lowest (the big red vs blue fight at the end of EP4), Erika makes even him look like a considerate and empathetic saint, and then in EP6 Battler has taken on Beato's old role while Erika on her own is playing the detective role that Battler used to play, still proving to be more vile and merciless so that she ends up being someone the reader roots against when she and Beato duke it out (though due to Without Love It Cannot Be Seen and Erika's own character growth there are moments where you're made to almost root for her too.) Then in EP8 she's reintroduced by saving little Ange, and so when Ange defects to Bern's side, Erika and Evatrice are both there with her, with Erika being the most shamelessly and gleefuly hateful little shit among the whole lot who Ange even notes has uncanny similarities to her. Like she's absolutely meant to be Ange's dark reflection.
I have issues with the role of Erika in the story, and I think it mostly comes from episode 8
Like in episode 5 and 6 she's quite compelling. She's an intellectual bully, someone who gets into argument for the sake of humiliating other people. This is very much not something that Ryukishi made up (think of Ben Shapiro or celebrities like him). Also how she manipulates private information to draw the worst portrait of Natsuhi is quite compelling also (I've watched too much youtube drama video to know this).
But in episode 8, I really don't like the point she's used to convey. The idea that if Ange sticks to the truth she will literally become cruel and sadistic like Erika. Hello?? It's so far-fetched. It's just demonization of Ange and her quest for truth.
(In my memory, in the VN, it happens out of the blue in the trick ending. In the manga it's more developed, but I'm still extremely dubious.)
This may be the reason why I remember Erika as "the evil character Ryukishi uses to turn truth into an evil thing". Even if it's a very incomplete view of her character.
As said in the comments, Erika is not meant to be viewed as an entirely evil character and the truth not meant to be painted as an evil thing, and as such the Trick Ending is not meant to be a straight up "Bad Ending". The point of the two endings is a matter of leaving it up to the reader should Ange choose to seek tangible results that uncover and conclusively, definitively establish a truth of life in the material world she lives in or choose to live by her own spiritual truths even if they're intangible and not entirely definitive or conclusive: it was never a black and white issue.
The manga, Golden Fantasia, and Last Note Of The Golden Witch flesh out the Ange-Beatrice and Erika partnership more and it's actually meant to be a very grey thing as well, not strictly an "evil" thing. Ange, or rather Ange-Beatrice, becoming more like Erika is not her "turning evil", it's her, jaded and traumatized by the past as ever, deciding she wants to pursue a future as an investigative truth-seeker and in doing so become a person who can make deductions so thorough that she'll believe her reasoning to be flawless and reflective of the truth (just as Erika is prone to doing), and once she's reached that point, no arguments from anyone else could ever dissuade her or hold any power over her. Erika being with her is symbolic of her keeping her darker nature at her side at all times and, as they're both witches of truth, they can both be merciless and even cruel but also keep each other in check as they search to uncover and establish the full scope of truth with all possible truths weighed and considered, the right way rather than the "neglect the heart and focus entirely on the ends that their means will reach" way like Erika used to do prior to her and Beato's game in EP6.
