🪩How the waltz and nineteenth-century protocol changed interior design in the Palaces of Europe
-
Yes, you read that right. Since the beginning of the 19th century, the palatine traditions of the Ancien Régime have been changing and transforming. Along with them, musical characteristics did too, passing from the minuet to the waltz in a matter of a few decades. To this concept we must add fashion, which after the Napoleonic period, began to innovate with large and voluminous dresses.
🙏🏼What was the result? Banquets and parties in European royal courts required larger rooms.
🌿A beautiful example of this transformation was the gala dining room of the Royal Palace in Madrid, which you can visit in its present museum.
📌In 1885 this great hall was finished following the design of José Segundo de Lema. It was conceived for receptions, balls, dinners and banquets. With the union of 3 rooms of the former Queen’s apartment, the Royal Palace of Madrid became fashionable with an eclectic decoration and a size worthy to receive kings, queens and foreign dignitaries.
👑To this day it has been used on countless occasions, did you know that?
