You know, there's this cliché that teenage boys always eat massive amounts, but teenage girls really aren't that different if they're not suppressed by diet culture and body shaming. Like, I was a teenage girl who frankly just stopped bothering to fit into mainstream beauty ideals at some point, and I would regularly make myself just one big massive pot of pasta and devour it completely. This wasn't even stress eating or anything, I just genuinely needed the energy because you know, I was a teenager and my body was developing. I feel like so many teenage girls think they need to eat as little as possible to be petite and pretty, but the truth is that your body is developing just as intensely as teenage boys' bodies. Eat more, please, your body needs it.

Complaining to no one again but I think someone saying something offensive over a decade ago and someone actively using their platform and influence to harm others are entirely different issues of entirely different caliber and I’m kind of getting exhausted about them being handled basically the same way. Asking for an apology is reasonable but I feel like the constant onslaught on anyone that produces media and has ever done anything wrong anywhere in their entire lives isn’t helping anyone. Plus, we can’t expect anyone to change for the better if all it means is being sent death threats over something you did forever ago and already apologized for. It genuinely makes me worry if I ever get an audience for things I make, because it really does feel like you’re required to be perfect and to always have been perfect.

I remember when I was younger, anytime I watched a movie where the characters have to kill a scary monster/alien, I always thought the act of killing it was intended to be part of the horror. Like there’s this amazing creature that we’ve never seen before, and maybe under different circumstances we could’ve coexisted with it, but it’s trying to attack you and you have to defend yourself, but by destroying it you also destroy the ability to ever understand it and that’s sad and is supposed to make you feel conflicted.
It was not until well into my adulthood that I realized most people do not have complicated feelings about movies where people have to kill a scary alien monster, nor is that necessarily meant to be part of the narrative (unless it very obviously is). They just want the scary thing to die because it’s scary. I don’t have a real conclusion to this I just started thinking about it for some reason.
