Novel: Daydreams a lot. Running through fields. Lifelong friendships. Wants to change the world. Great memory. Tactful. Fine details.Wears their heart on their sleeve.

Poetry: Soft eyes. Wistful smiles. Only a few close friends. Skinnydipping in the ocean. Late nights. Thinks too deeply. Tries too hard or not at all. Moves like they have all the time in the world. 

Short stories: Talks too fast. Wants to run away. Kissing in the dark. Quick touches. Falls in loves easily. Humming softly. Whispered secrets. Can’t stay in one place very long.

Dictionary: Overachiever. Probably plans their day out minute by minute. Hard worker. Reads too much for their own good. Bit of a know-it-all. Wants to be a teacher someday.

Comics: Short attention span. Fidgets a lot. Big imagination. Colourful clothes. Crooked grins. Making a statement. Fluffy socks. Printed t-shirts. Doesn’t think before they speak.

Because as an adult, this pervasive notion that there exists a perfect path for everyone, that people should love what they do, and that work is meant to function as a vehicle for fulfilling a person’s grand life destiny is not only inaccurate for many of us, it can be toxic.

The ideal is so ingrained that I have to remind myself constantly I’m not a failure because I don’t adore my job, and because I’m not rocking the world with my work. That is okay. 

He kindly pointed out that I’ve been too sick the last few months to write, draw, and create as I usually do and to remember that lots of people have “day jobs.” And he was so right. I haven’t had the physical or mental energy to do the things I love lately, and it’s taking an emotional toll on me. These feelings were misplaced on my actual job, which in MOST ways, I love. My job is flexible, pays me well, and provides me with insane perks (like getting to bring my baby to work with me, fully paid medical, stable hours, etc.)
