So you wanna be a sugar baby? I’m sure you do. It looks easy and glamorous. I’m afraid that it’s not all fun and manicures around here. You will get scared, you will get excited, you will get exhausted, you could easily get physically hurt, you will lie, you will change your life. When I started sugaring, I went through some phases, and as each passed, I entered a new phase. Talking to other SBs, it seems to be pretty common to experience this sugar-shift as you grow as a SB. I’ve outlined these phases broadly, so that you may understand whether or not the sugar life is for you. Note: some phases in your experience may be skipped, some may be repeated, and some may not be included in this list. 

1) Discovery. So you’ve come across sugaring, one way or another. For me, it was a plan B next to escorting. I really got curious about it after quitting an escort agency, and I did some research. And I looked up everything I could about it. I was so interested in learning EVERYTHING. I stayed up late scrolling through tumblr and IG. Google, youtube, just about anything I could use to learn more. I was so hungry to learn as much as possible about sugaring.

2) Star-Struck. Once you’ve plunged into the sugary depths, made your SA profile, and made small-talk with a few POTs, you get a little dreamy. You start to fantasize. All the media you’ve subjected yourself to via research will get to your head. You’ll forget why you wanted to sugar in the first place, and you’ll instead drool over imaginary handsome 30 year olds, designer bags, fancy dinners, and shopping sprees. You’re sugar high.

3) The Wake up Call. You meet a couple POTs for lunch, maybe you agree to something pay-per-meet, and you end up a little uneasy after having sex with a 60 year old. You didn’t make as much money as you originally hoped for, and you end up spending it on stupid shit, assuming you’ll make more money again soon. You’ve ignored your friends, you’ve neglected your laundry, you’ve slacked on schoolwork, and you’ve lost a lot of sleep. Consistently checking your SA profile, not really getting much feedback. You start to crash. You get depressed. Warning: Do NOT get desperate during this phase and accept risky offers.

4) The Reality Check. You realize you can’t let sugaring be your entire life. While it does require a shit ton of work, you understand that you need to balance your life again. This is when a lot of sugar babies stop sugaring. They can’t juggle sugar life on top of normal stuff. However, if you manage to get your priorities in check, while still keeping your head above water sugar-wise, you’ll progress as a sugar baby. 

5) The Routine. You’ve done it. You’ll obtained your ideal arrangement. Maybe it’s just one SD, maybe it’s a variety of different arrangements with different men. Either way, you’ve gained consistency and luxury, and you feel stable. You see the same man/men regularly, and you may start to actually develop a solid friendship. Sex with him/them may become something you look forward to, rather than something you close your eyes through. Your heart doesn’t race from anxiety anymore when you see your SD. You rarely check your SA profile anymore. You do your laundry. You pay your bills. You look hella fine. You’ve made it to your goal, and you don’t feel so “scandalous” anymore.

6) The Life Event. Okay, so most sugar babies probably tell themselves that sugaring is temporary. Eventually, something will come along that will end your arrangement. Don’t be in denial about this. Be prepared. Save your money (or at least a responsible amount of it) or you will regret it later. You may meet the love of your life, and you vow to not sugar behind his/her back. You get pregnant. You move away. You graduate school. You get that perfect job and can comfortably support yourself. You could get in a fight. Maybe your SD meets the older woman of his dreams. Maybe he moves away. Maybe he loses his job. ANYTHING CAN END IT.
