Copycat surprise, a mimicking gasp. Even now, the entity can’t exist without some form of imitation. It would say it’s bitter if it knew the feeling, because it got out of the mirrors to be it’s own person, only to be stuck pretending to be someone else. It’s frustrating, but it’s the only thing it has. 

Fight or flight. Natural response, isn't it? Except Jamie does neither. He stands paralyzed by the strange sight(although he does strangely feel the need to slap this imitation. Was that weird?). "Wh-what...?" he managed to stutter out after what was probably far too long. "H-how...?"

It understands this expression because it’s seen it more than most. Sadness and despair is a more common theme among humans than any other. It morphs the face it’s wearing to the one he can see (he already has this face. It’s one of his favourite. This face can deceive people easier than most. A small cute smile or a cunning glare, people tend to love the face regardless). With a crease between the brows, the face begins to mimic the sad expression of the stranger. 

Eyes are averted to the ground and so the eagle isn't aware of the person in front of him with his own face. Not at first. Because Jamie was far too busy mourning the loss of his lunch (and breakfast and dinner and tomorrow's breakfast all rolled into one) to actually take note. But he does, eventually look up. And he does, eventually, note the face that was like looking into a mirror. And he does, eventually, gasp. If he still had chips, he'd have just dropped them.
