I made a video essay on the insanity of the SPVTW Blu Ray, which includes some history on the film, the importance of archiving (lost websites & social media accounts) a teeny bit of general film history and more. I had a ton of fun researching this one, please check it out if you can!
wtf has that boy been up to for 4 years 😭
I have a running gag for vol 3 where Scott just sees Todd as Goku when he uses his vegan powers which would either make it hard for him to want to fight him because he loves Goku, or would make it easy because Scott would definitely want to know if he was stronger than Goku 💀
‼️Zootopia 2 Spoilers ‼️
Jared Bush needs to teach a master class on all the ways just one word can have so many different readings in a narrative depending on who's saying it and in what context. The way Chief Bogo uses the word "partner" vs the way Dr. Fuzzby does in a therapy sesh vs how Judy and Nick use it in the first half of the film vs how they use it when they're separated vs how they use it in the latter half of Zootopia 2 vs the way Gary and Pawbert use it to describe one another before the betrayal vs how Gary uses it to reassure Judy about helping Nick later are all so different but also very potent in their own way. Partner as a co-worker, partner as a team member, partner as a role one has an obligation to fill, partner as someone who matters most to you in the world, partner as someone you consider a part of your pack/fluffle...
Jared Bush is an excellent writer and I’m actually feral about all the establishing text in the screenplay REALLY painting the picture of the way each character thinks. His wordplay and use of innocent double entendre is just perfect in so many ways
The way no one told me the screenplay was now available to the public... This is how I found out 😭
Full disclosure I could kinda tell based on the phrasing that you hadn’t read it yet hahaha. It’s ok, I found out a couple days ago and only skimmed a couple scenes.
It doesn’t offer a WHOLE lot more insight than what we see in the finished product, but it does allow for us to identify some clarifying moments that as viewers (and as shippers) we may think “am I thinking into this too hard?” When in reality, no, actually, Nick is legitimately, in the script, thinking “I would die for her. Her life is worth so much more than mine.” Like we KNEW that, but seeing it written, seeing the specific descriptors used to identify what turned into their facial expressions, their thought patterns, their micro movements, it’s all so beautiful. I LOVE the process of animation.
It also allows us to see what was reinterpreted in production/post-production. And that’s what I love about animation. The storyboards when Judy shows up to Nick’s apartment show him awkwardly hiding her view of inside with his tail just like in the final product, but the way he leans up against the doorway is much more Nick-esque and nonchalant in the final animation than it was when it was storyboarded. In the drawings it looks like he full on panicked and threw himself across the doorway like he was REALLY hiding it. Like he was embarrassed. That says to me that there was an iteration of this scene that had Nick way more visibly concerned with Judy’s perception of him. And between that and the way his pure shock at seeing her in the dress in the following scene was written? This man CARES. And the writers and artists want you to KNOW that.
That said, the frequency of usage of words like “partner” is VERY obvious when you see it all written out. But it’s also spaced out very intentionally. You’re absolutely right. He is a masterful writer and people should be taking notes. I know I am.
I made this post during the opening weekend of the film so the screenplay wasn't released yet. I didn't expect it to be released so soon so thank you for letting me know you're so real for that 🤞🏾
I'll take a look at the full screenplay later (I have it bookmarked), but I really enjoyed reading your comments about it! I hope Jared knows he has us losing our minds over here LMAO

‼️Zootopia 2 Spoilers ‼️
I know the movie is still very fresh in everyone's minds (especially because it literally just came out) BUT I think people's critiques of Pawbert as the twist villain, his villain arc and his lack of redemption falls flat when y'all forget what Zootopia as a whole is a metaphor for.
The first film is an obvious metaphor for bigotry—specifically racism. This is made clear with the predators being stereotyped and profiled as violent and "savage" and so many more examples. This theme continues and is expanded on into the second film with an explicit reference to colonization, gentrification and forced displacement. The Lynxleys are a family that obtained their main source of wealth/fame through the premeditated theft of the climate wall idea from Gary's ancestor (including framing her for murder and preying on the unjustified fear of reptiles other animals had). They directly profited from the theft of that idea, and Pawbert's ancestor knew exactly what would happen to reptiles when he framed one for murder. Doing so resulted in reptiles being exiled for centuries, forced to leave their homes to become property of the Lynxley family (at least the land was since the homes were still buried under snow).
The fact that generations later, the Lynxleys continued to expand and take over habitats (read: land) from other animals for their own benefit is textbook gentrification. They continued to ride off of the fame and success of having "invented" the climate wall into the present day. So with that out of the way...
Pawbert is introduced to both us and Judy as an outcast from his family, who clearly doesn't like him. Later, it's revealed that Pawbert is the mysterious animal that has been aiding Gary in his heist of the book, as well as helping him find his ancestor's home, which would lead them to the original patent page. Here, Pawbert is telling Judy and the audience (who now knows the truth of the Lynxley family), "I am not my family. I am not my ancestors" (something similar to what Judy says to him later after he poisons her). Pawbert appears to be a traitor to the Lynxleys, and by extension, a class traitor, because he makes the effort to help Gary (a member of the oppressed class) bring out the truth. If the world (our world) was perfect, this is the ideal position for someone with wealth and power that was gained through something as sinister as forced displacement and exploitation to take.
The reason I like Pawbert's refusal to be redeemed even when given several chances to is because it's realistic! There are many people in the real world who are just like him, people in positions of power that got there through the evil shit their ancestors did. People love to say "I'm not my ancestors" or "I didn't set xyz system up", but are completely content with continuing to benefit from the evil shit their ancestors did or the evil systems they helped create and continue to uphold. Pawbert initially appeared as if he was attempting to right the wrongs of his family—to go against the idea that a member in an oppressor class had to remain just that, an oppressor—but he ultimately decided that his family's approval was more important than the insane shit done to Gary's family and other reptiles... Pawbert had many chances to not be his ancestors (or even his immediate family), but still chose to (it's glaringly obvious when he uses the same method his great grand whatever did to frame Gary for the murder of Judy, Nibbles and Nick). The fact that Pawbert learned the history of what happened to Gary's ancestors and STILL didn't care is incredibly realistic unfortunately.

Knowing that Gabriel internalized what Marinette said to him in the season 5 finale, which led to him saving Nathalié's life instead of Emilé's, I wonder if that version of Gabriel would've wanted Adrien to find and read the letter in the end. This isn't a comment on whether Marinette should've given the letter to Adrien in the first place (a larger conversation), but more so on what Gabriel would've actually wanted if he knew how his confrontation with Ladybug/Marinette would've ended. He wrote the letter before the season 5 finale under the assumption that he'd never be able to make the wish himself because he was actively dying from Chat's cataclysm. I wonder if what he wrote no longer applies since he had a change of heart in the end, but it's interesting to think about how Gabriel wanted Adrien to take up his mantel...

Imagine Sam at home, minding his black ass business, getting a call from someone telling him to turn on the tv. He sees a random press conference where his BEST FRIEND is standing there near a man they collectively beefed with and a handful of other people he doesn't know being crowned The New Avengers... Now mind you, Sam and Bucky spoke face to face not even that long ago. Valentina is telling the press, telling the world, that she's been working on this team for years. From Sam's perspective, it looks like Bucky has been working secretly to be apart of the New Avengers and not telling him anything about it. It makes sense that Sam wasn't hearing nothing when Bucky tried talking to him about it, and is trying to not only build his own Avengers, but copyright the name all together 💀
