okay you know those posts that are like "this male character archetype would be better as a woman"? you know what we need more of? female loudmouth braggart hero antagonists. women who are cocky and comedically vainglorious and beloved by the public and also objectively suck so fucking bad. I'm not kidding. I don't care how sexist the audience would be about that. I want to see a woman who should be played by whoever the female equivalent of Nathan Fillion is.

seriously though why is the trauma of women in fantasy taken only most seriously when they are teenagers or children. like i do of course understand that we as a society see harm to children as more extreme than harm to adults but sometimes it feels like authors who are men only care about a woman’s pain if it happened when she was a child. in the cosmere there’s vin, shallan davar, venli, siri, even jasnah kholin whose defining trauma seemingly happened in her childhood even if we don’t know the details. all these characters are either children or teenagers when some sort of traumatic event happens to them, usually abuse or sexual assault related. (even if it is never depicted on page vin and siri both are in situations that imply possible assault) beyond the cosmere i immediately think of game of thrones; of sansa and daenerys especially. like is the assumption that we only care about a damaged woman if the damage happened to her as a child? is it because the girl child in distress is the most tragic figure possible?
