During watching Mamma Mia 2, I was really, really upset with Tanya for all this thing with Bill. Why Donna just had to have all of them, when Rosie didn’t even get a chance with Bill? They could have been together for so long, without all of these lonely years.

But then it got me. They wouldn’t.

Bill was helpless playboy (which wasn’t really noticeable in first movie), and he would end up hurting Rosie this way or another. Donna needed him only for comfort, and he just disappeared after he slept with her - they both got what they wanted. Rosie wanted commitment, and he wasn’t ready to give it to her at that time. Also he needed Sophie to meet Rosie again as a different person, so Sophie had to be born… and I think Bill is her real father (recesive genes - Donna is blonde and Sophie is blonde, so father most probably is blond too).
